General & Others What was it that started the war between Zoro and Sanji fans?

I’m genuinely curious about this. Was it always like this or did something happen?

Personally I used to like both until a series of events starting with the timeskip shifted my opinion. What caused the issues for the general population though?

The main argument started back in Little Garden when oda paralleled them with Dory and Brogy.

Oda going from Zoro being a Sasuke type rival even fighting evenly in Whiskey Peak to zoro being portrayed evenly with Sanji left an argument of where exactly is zoro. Then got worse with Doriki.

Idk, I joined the fandom too late (hunting for spoilers). I think it was around late 2019 or so, maybe 2020 (reddit was my first experience of any anime/manga fandom community). Before that I was pure, and never did I ever get the feeling that Zoro and Sanji were equal in terms of fighting power.

It all pretty much goes back to Enies Lobby the Candi boys were bad before that arc but when that arc showed Kaku 2200 Jabra 2180.

Their heads got big and still to this day you’ll see things like Sanji = Zoro or Zoro => Sanji. Which pisses Zoroboys like me off !

Rather there are hints for Luffy and Zoro being closer than Zoro and Sanji.

I never thought they were equal but there was a time when I enjoyed them both equally.

This is probably the right answer. Do you ever remember a time when the fans weren’t at each others throats? When I joined OJ years ago it was happening already.

Even their recent teamwork vs that giant dinosaur was actually quite cool, yep, with the usual bickering "you looked like a flying broccoli" "don't care, I killed the dino" xD

But instead of appreciation, we're jumping to power scaling wars which is exhausting.

So I avoid the power scaling threads. I am a Sanji fan, but I also like Zoro, and I strongly believe that the dynamic Luffy > Zoro > Sanji will stay with us till EOS and beyond, even if the actual gap gets small. Nothing that I read on the forum will change my mind. Interview with Oda and his placement of the characters probably will, if he ever gives one.
