Chapter Discussion What's the point of Sanji's ultraspeed and CoO specialization when Nami almost got killed

#1
Sanji defending his teammates is literally his thematic thing since East Blue, present throughout the story until now. Especially the women, even more so it's Nami.

CoO is his specialization. Speed is his biggest power. Yet Shotaphim Jinbe can get to point blank range of Nami and can literally kill her had not for the narrative.

Then, why even make Sanji present there if his theme & power got ditched for the sake of that scene? The shotaphim doesn't even blitz or something.

Useless.

Sanji is specifically shown responding to save Nami when it's clear she can't defend herself effectively and he kicks Seraphim Jimbei away saving Nami. Unless she'd somehow be ok if Sanji didn't move which I think is strange. Maybe you're referring to a different scene but what I saw was Sanji using his observation haki and remarking that Seraphim Jimbei has a strange aura about him and Sanji sending the Seraphim tumbling to save Nami.

Plus he was on his way to save Usopp before Franky covered for him. Sanji was trying the hardest or atleast was making the most effort to watch over everyone.

Sanji couldn't prevent Nami from getting choked.
Told you, his CoO is not the same anymore as how it used to be. In Wano, he didn't know either when Nami was beaten to half death, blooding, and crying by Ulti.

Either that, or he just doesn't care as much anymore.
His cold blooded DNA from Vinsmoke style is slowly affecting our former favorite cook.

People need to stop treating haki stuff like it’s automatic. If every character could just predict everything the manga would be incredibly boring… It would be like everyone is psychic telekinetic…Jesus. You can’t write an interesting story like that if everybody can predict everything and that’s why Oda makes haki to be something that has to be intentionally activated or keeps it somewhat situational for tension. More than enough examples of that.

This is a story, not some stat based rigid system for fights.

I always tell these biased little fanboys this is a story driven manga but no “muh favorite stronkest and headcanon powerscalezz +weird urge to relentlessly downplay a fictional character out of childish insecurities irl”
