Has Oda ever Explained Garp obsession over Roger or Roger Obsession over Garp?

Garp could barely care about , Xebec , who was on full time Pirate mode. Or Whitebeard , who was as fearsome as Roger.

I mean ofc Garp may have encountered Whitebeard at some point. But his obsession of Roger is insane.

Even during last chapter , Roger first instance was to flee if Marine ship shows up Like whitebeard did. Nobody wanted random Clashes.

But moment Roger got to know it's Garp. He commanded everyone to fight.

Just rival doesn't even make sense here.

They love to fight powerful dudes, that’s about it. Roger is also revealed to be an assaulter and kidnapper so maybe Garp’s rage is justified.

Pride and ego. Garp had multiple encounters with Chinjao and never captured him. Why? Because he was obsessed with breaking his drill head. Its similar to Smoker abandoning his post in Loguetown to chase Luffy into the grandline, all because his pride was shot when Luffy became the first pirate to escape him.

You escape capture? Garp will hunt you down until he catches you. You too fast to get hit? Garp will fight you constantly until he hits you.
