We know cannonically that Kaido intended to only make a move against WB when Ace was captured and set for execution. From what the manga told us was that messing with WBs crew like that was forbidden & taboo. Kaido knew this full well & went out of his way to interfere but was interfered himself by Shanks and stopped before properly doing such.

& now we have Roger who went out of his way due to Shakkys capture knowing that Rocks & his crew were already heading there....

Kaido knew Whitebeard intended to die in Marineford and wanted to kill him himself first out of respect.

We don't know what happened to Roger and Shakky in GV while we know Shanks made Kaido retreat home like a good boy .

So Kaido is worse for now.
