The first guess is that he will be the “main” player in taking down big mom. That makes sense to me. Especially with the play on words with “kid” and “mom” I don’t believe it’s a coincidence.

If you go back reading chapter 981, after the Punk Gibson, Apoo was on the floor and Kidd grabbed him a second time to spit all the shit he did on his face. Apoo even showed the 'surprise' onomathopea when Kidd reached him a second time.
This means that he had no problem in overwhelming Apoo right there, circumstances didn't allow that tho

Oda didn't draw it on panel but made sure to let him state him fighting and injuring a Sweet General during the TS
He literally made Caribou interpretate the mid reader who trashes, just to be shut down from the truth
If someone doesn't get what Oda was trying to do there, is just the reader's problem cause Oda made it clear

I will tell you one reason why you shouldn't expect that much from Kid or any other Supernova

Oda's Initial Plan was for Luffy & Co. to fight Yonko (+WG of course)
So Wano Arc & Final Arc were Planned since ever
And Oda already decided who are gonna Fall & who are gonna Rise
Especially Wano Arc that Oda said he prepared over 20 Years Ago

Then he decided to add Shichibukai & his Plan got bigger & Mid-Way added Supernova too
These Supernova were not Part of the Plan of how Yonko are gonna be Dealt with
However Oda would still add them & find them a suitable Role & give them their Moments to Shine
But with One Condition! And that is he won't Sacrifice the moments he always planned for his Initial Major Characters

And Law is Greatest Example:

Doflamingo was Planned & added to the Story more than a Decade before Law was even Introduced
And yet Oda decided to give them a Deep Connection & add Law to Dressrosa/Wano Saga.
However even though Law dedicated his Entire Life to defeat Doflamingo & he suggested the Alliance & Dressrosa Arc focused so much on him & his Drama, guess what? He wasn't the one to take down Doflamingo! So even with so much Build Up between Doffy & Law, Oda couldn't Sacrifice his Initial Plan for sake of Law & still made Luffy the one who defeats Doffy

Wano Arc is even worse, because it was Planned before even Shichibukai, let alone Supernova
And Kid have no Connection with Big Mom & Kaido similar to Law & Doffy, they are simply Enemies who gave each other Trouble before

The Initial Plan was Always since +20 Years Ago, for Luffy & Zoro to defeat Kaido & Big Mom, that's why they are the only Two who have enough Haki to endanger Kaido's Life

Kid & Law & any other Supernova are being added to Arcs as Important Figures & Major Secondary Characters who will become Great Pirates in the Future but Oda is never gonna let them outshine Luffy & Zoro that he had Plans for them since ever

Kid will have his Gamma Knife Moment that Law had with Doffy but other than that, don't expect more
And just like Law after Dressrosa, Kid might get lot of Credit & become considered a Pirate King Candidate
But Scenario wise, he isn't gonna take down any Yonko

None of them existed in my plot notebooks before that chapter. I was in desperate situation, worrying, "At this rate, Sabaody arc will not be interesting enough." Then, inspiration for 9 Supernovas came to my mind unconsciously. I should have reduced the number of Supernovas since they were too many, but after all, I made all of them appear in manga!! I'm really surprised they survive till now since I thought about half of them would drop out of tough New World already.

They are worst!! They are the worst generation, indeed. I imagined Kid would become an important character, but...Law!! I didn't imagine he would become such an important character. Weekly serialization is a wonderland.

His role is to rival Luffy. It always has been and it always will be. Even after Luffy becomes PK, Kidd will still be his rival EOS. (Unless he dies). Oda will use this current Wano arc to hype up Kidd because believe it or not Wano isn’t even going to be Kidds main arc. That will be whichever arc focuses on Shanks because it is no coincidence the amount of connections and parallels that Oda has written between Kidd and Shanks.

- Kidd’s appearance is near identical to Shanks. (Red Hair, missing left arm, scar across the left side of his face).

- Luffy looks up to Shanks, Kidd very badly wants to kill Shanks

- Shanks gave his arm for Luffy while he took Kidd’s arm

- Shanks taught Luffy in chapter 1 to ignore people who laugh at you, Kidd specifically notes in Saboady that he kills people who laugh at his dream.

- This point is a bit off topic, but is interesting to think about. In New World we know that Luffy and Kidd have had run ins and interactions with multiple Yonko. I find it interesting that the only Yonko Luffy hasn’t had any interaction in NW yet is Shanks while the only Yonko Kidd hasn’t interacted with yet is Blackbeard. And we all know the connections and parallels that Shanks and Blackbeard share.

Anyway, not being programmed doesn't mean not gaining a huge role.
- Law's DF was not programmed and it will still play a huge role at some point
- Imu was not programmed and he/she will still play a huge role at some point
- Akainu was supposed to die in MF but he's still alive and will play a huge role in the future
- Damn Katakuri wasn't programmed and he still had a huge role, and will probably have it too in the future

Should we go on? If you think that Oda is still blocked in 1999 the you're probably misreading something

Exactly. Kid has done nothing in the entire series to be considered Luffy's equal. For such an arrogant guy, his win ratio is pretty bad.

Plans change and in the end the SN who has received the best character development is Law.

I think Kidd will be Luffy's main rival in an epilogue or after the end of the series. Trying to compete with BB and Luffy at this point would only worsen his reputation. But it would be fun to see Kid show up before Luffy challenging him only to have BB show up out of nowhere and knock him out with one punch.

You are overthinking this. Oda loves to tease. That is most likely all there is to it.

Kid, like the rest of the WG exist to bloat the story, to make it more grandiose, nothing more. He will do nothing major that will affect the plot or shift it. That honor is preserved to Luffy and Blackbeard.
