At this point The Strawhats are like Rich Fratboys who became successful because of daddy's connections while pretend to be self made men

Or you know... not, if you read the story. By the time we readers find out about Luffy he's already fought an admiral, beaten a Warlord, and the "strongest cipher pol agent in history." When he's announced to the world, he's already taken on the entire Navy on the biggest stage, and Garp even lampshades his self made name.

Sanji actually hates his name and the actual Germa say he is unworthy of it.

Nico's last name isn't worth much. It's more that she survived Ohara. Doesn't matter which scholar necessarily.

Zoro... if he fucking cuts down a major figure in the Beast pirates... that's all him. He trained his ass off, that's all he does. You can thank Luffy's connections, with Kuma sending them where they needed to go, but the whole point is what they made of it amd what they do now.

Idk to me it just seems kinda boring to say such an important character has a cheap and weak backstory like yeah his parents were farmers and now they are dead and thats it

And Chapter 1 is basically Luffy backstory and I’d argue that’s one of the best chapters of the series.

I'll never forget Oda for fucking up Zoro's backstory. I honestly think he fucked up because of his lack of experience at the beginning of his career.

Only because it's short doesn't mean it is bad
