Which Game Series Got Better , Which Game Series Got Worse ?

Borderlands is the most ruined franchise I've ever seen and recent news and rumours are NOT helping.

I've never seen a series characters and lore butchered more aside from certain manga series *cough* but even then....

It's legit completely destroying me emotionally, spiritually, mentally etc how far it has fallen and how as per usual, my favourite characters are getting shat on and literally suffering/abused in the stories.

Think what has happened to One Piece for those who are fed up, disillusioned, bitter with it but put it in a speedrun and you get an idea of my Borderlands suffering too lmao.

Imo Pokemon peaked around Ruby/Sapphire and its only gotten much worse over time, its way too convoluted, way too saturated and drawn out, I feel like I need a university degree, a masters even to try and keep up with that series. I gave up on it many years and don't ever intend to return.

Zelda is much worse for me post BOTW but I've yet to play them but given what I played Zelda for and why I LOVED that series SO MUCH, my feelings still stand strong regardless imo.

That new Zelda-led game looks great along with the Links Awakening remake but the fact they are doing a live action movie just really makes me sad lol. It deserves a half decent animated movie at worst instead but ideally a great one ofc at least. At least we're FINALLY getting a game with Zelda as the protagonist though, took them DAMN long enough, since Wand of freaking Gamelon or whatever!

Prince of Persia is quite a mess right now but at least its not dead, Beyond Good and Evil is getting RUINED and tortured with that fucking disgusting Captain Laserhawk series on Netflix but also the existence of Beyond Good and Evil 2 and how it bastardises what made Beyond Good and Evil so great and such, like some kind of South Park/Family Guy style parody of it but made with pure malice and misunderstanding of it.
But hey, the 20th Anniversary Remaster of it was genuinely amazing and made me cry from happiness and be in complete disbelief to this day, so Ubisoft somehow is not ALL bad after all!? Their customer support has been really good to me lately, very patient and helpful too.

I would say Mario games have really peaked in a long time and thus related games like the new Peach Showtime one, a new Mario Bros coming, Paper Mario Origami King looks amazing, a TTYD Remaster thats apparently well done and it actually existing is truly heartwarming and inspiring too, but also recent Mario games have looked so good, I need to play them already and the fact Luigis Mansion not only has 1 but 2 sequels and a remaster of the first 2 now I believe, makes me very happy too!

I really hate the direction Xenoblade went in after the first one too, just makes my skin crawl, my soul cringe and my gut feel like it wants to heave too.

League of Legends in a pretty amazing place in some ways, Dota 2 too but in some ways they are really awful too. Same for Dungeon Defenders 2 and thus the franchise generally, a real mixed bag of extreme highs and lows.

The ones that got better:
  • Fire Emblem (Three Houses was an immersive experience)
  • Street Fighter, Tekken, etc.
  • Kirby
The ones that got worse:
  • Pokemon (Scarlet and Violet cutting corners on some animations)
  • Overwatch?
