I'm obviously a One Piece Fan, both are fantasy epics to be honest.

But we have to be down to earth, Lotr has the best world building of any Fantasy Epic out there.

Tolkien literally build a new language for the Elbs for example. Lotr feels much richer. I mean come on Lotr is peak Fantasy.

I'm not disrespecting Oda here both are top tier

one piece has alot of races in characters who should have their own cultures and languages but I feel Oda was limited by the medium. trying to get to the level of lore Tolkens mythos has through a manga would probably take lifetimes, due to the time and space drawing takes from the story. I haven't read LOTR but through cultural osmosis I can tell it is an insane level of detail.

I believe Oda has it in him but couldn't cause its a manga, but the visuals are worth it in their own way.

LOTR is its own world. One Piece has a lot of references to the real world, pop culture, etc. It's not inherently a bad thing by any means, but you can't compare between Tolkien inventing languages meanwhile Oda flips on a movie, sees a character, and says "ooh ill base an admiral off this guy" even if said character ends up becoming legendary and iconic in its own right.

I voted OP beace the poll says OP vs LOTR, not OP vs LOTR + Silmarillion + Hobbit + The Children of Hurin + Unfinished Tales and The History of Middle-earth + whatever else Tolkiens offsprings decided do publish decades after his death...

Sure, Tolkiens lore is much more vast and rich than that of Oda, but LOTR itself only touches a small percentage of it. Oda could also decide to write a bible of OP world that spans from the creation of the world to the current story, squishing a thousands of years of events and overload of characters into a few pages, without fleshing out any of them, so that way they could compete in the sheer quantity of information I guess.
