Nobody denies that good looks attract someone or that we all have our own physical "taste".

As you grow up, you will realize that this really is just the cherry on the cake though.

If you have to decide between an average looking person with a great personality and a really good looking person with a bland personality, almost no mature person goes for the last one.

A person's looks is what gets them your attention in the first place, then of course you find about their personality by interacting with them.

People say that without any info about a person your first parameter to "rank" them is looks. That's pretty obvious and understandable since you don't know anything about their personality yet.

However, once you get to know the person better, personality soon takes over as a (much) more important trait.

in short:

very little info about someone -> looks more important
you know someone a bit better -> personality (much) more important
