Oda just said that Kidd “defeated” the commander. I always said this even years ago. It makes no sense that Kidd was able to steal a poneglyph rubbing if all he did was injure him. Kidd had to have at least incapacitated him to get away.

Injuring someone then taking something away from them definitely means you defeated them.
The only mystery here was who the commander was.
Kid's bounty was really suppressed all this considered. He should have been in the comfortable upper 500s to lower 600s million berry.

Kid Policy of killing off defeated enemies really worked against him. Man had two years in the new world to defeat and subjugated quality pirates and add them to his crew. Snack would have been a good addition.
