During the age of exploration, the European upper class amassed immense amounts of wealth by enslaving Africans and forcing them to work in new world sugar plantations.

Meanwhile, pirates popped up in the Caribbean in order to fight against the European powers and take a cut of the wealth for themselves.

That basically is the core plot of one piece right there
