I mean it is given that people prefer WB more than Roger because he got an entire arc dedicated to him and his character was iconic while we know next to nothing about Roger....opinions may change depending on how Oda develops the Roger character....

we have too little on Roger to make a fair comparison, but if I can put my two cents in, it's gonna be hard to beat Whitebeard's awesomeness. He is the wise and good hearted grandpa, while looking cool as fuck and being insanely powerful. This is probably my favorite kind of character in any media. Roger, on the other hand, seems like a regular shounen protagonist. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it's just kinda meh for me. But I trust Oda will surprise us and make Roger way cooller than he seems to be so far and this dispute among these pirate gentlemen will be closer in the future.
