Ryou is Haki, Wano just calls it something different. There is different levels of Haki. Kaido even says "Are they using Oden's Ryou" the first time the manage to damage him. He wasn't shocked that they were using Ryou, but the same level of Ryou Oden used which could damage him.

You do realize that people can coat their weapons and clothing, without having the type of Ryou that Oden used to injure Kaido, right? Oden's Haki was just on a higher level, which is the same kind that Luffy trained to unlock during Udon. Luffy could still coat things prior to being able to use barrier/Penetration Haki. But that level of Haki isn't strong enough to damage Kaido, which is why Luffy trained to take it to the next level.

The scabbards had basic coating Haki/Ryou this entire time. Some might of unlocked a higher level years ago, and others might have managed to bring it out in this past fight against Kaido because of their desire for revenge. The fact of the matter is, is not all Haki/Ryou can hurt Kaido, and since the scabbards couldn't hurt him years ago, he was shocked that all of them managed to reach the level where they could damage him.

Ryou is just a generalized term for Haki that the citizens of Wano use, like Mantra means Haki to the Skypieans. It is not a technique..... Have you really gone all of Wano thinking this? Lmao....

No shit. Haki that flows out of the palm like a blast. Luffy already had the basic concept of Haki/ryou down, and could coat his arms, and even other material. He didn't know how to get it to explode out of his palm like he saw Rayleigh and the Boa sisters do. Gather the ryou/haki at one point, and expel it from your body in a single burst. That is what Luffy was trying to achieve, and that is Hyou taught him.

There is a difference between coating something, and having it flow out of your body/weapon in a blast. In order to be able to make the Haki explode out like that, you first need to know how to coat something, which Luffy could already do.

He literally does it against Doflamingo.... On panel... In the manga.....

The process is Gather, Explode, Penetrate. Hyogoro could do the first two parts, but not the third. Luffy was able to do the first part, but not the second and third. Hyou taught him how to do the second part, and Luffy figured the third part out on his own.

Flowing it into the Sword is just the first step, which countless characters can do. Exploding is the second step, which we've only seen a handful of times. Sabo and the Boa sisters did it, and I guarantee you they have no clue what the hell Ryou is, because it's a concept foreign to Wano only. To the rest of the World, it's just Haki....
