I'm perfectly fine with Akainu being Blueno'd but it would be preferable if he had a good fight with someone more on his level like Sabo

I mean if you think Akainu is getting Blueno'd then you should have no issues with Shanks getting his guts evicerated just as easily by Luffy then.

His title has been reaffirmed multiple times and he has by orders of magnitude the best feats in the verse.

In his flashback he got exposed hard, very hard. He's been doing well to make up for it though via feats, but early on he was eating shit, everyone lost faith in the character thanks to him beating Oden thanks to a cheapshot hostage situation, after shitting his pants and avoiding a fight with him for years.

Big Mom is a lost cause for obvious reasons, a chunk of the fanbase is scared of the inevitable, so they're just damage controlling at the moment, it's funny watching it transpire. If her feats and portrayal are already this piss poor it's only gonna get worse deeper into the series when other top tiers (including Admirals) get more feats.

Kaido has shit moments like the Oden hostage thing, that doesn't change that he's very clearly top one alive both in statements and feats, excluding unknowns like Imu of course.

Here is how I see things work in OP. Characters do not remain stagnant in power levels in the One Piece world.
See: Lucci, Crocodile, etc... Marineford Croc isn't the same as Alabasta Croc.

Had Akainu been defeated this arc, it would only mean that Kaido would have been stronger later on compared to his current version we are seeing today.
Right now Gear 5 Luffy may defeat Kaido with say.... 2/10 effort as an example.
If Gear 5 Luffy fights Kaido again EOS it may not be 2/10 but rather 6/10 effort.

Luffy obviously, way too much buildup and animosity there. It won't feel satisfying unless Luffy pays Akainu back for marineford. I could care less for 99% of Luffy's fights, anyone can tag along and steal it including this meaningless Kaidou fight, but Blackbeard and Akainu have to be dealt with by Luffy.

I wouldn't be mad if it went something like this:
Sabo, now with cybernetic enhancement thanks to Vegapunk, fights Luffy. The match is extremely close with Luffy winning by an inch of his life. At the same time, the readers are introduced to a titanic duel between Sakazuki and Dragon. The fight between the two overpowering individuals are virtually identical. Even closer than Sakazuki's fight against Kuzan. In the end and because of plot, Sakazuki wins but BARELY.

Both extremely battered, Luffy and Sakazuki finally see each other and fight. Luffy wins in the end.
