I think Zoro is fine chara-wise, don't get some of the hate for him being too generic, sure, he's hardly the most compelling character out there, but he's likeable enough and that's fine in my opinion. If he were the main character it'd be more of a problem. I'd compare him to Jotaro from JoJo, who has the same personality, and works far better as a supporting cast than protagonist.
