when it's said Oden>roger/ray
Self-proclaimed "Strongest" swordsmanship. Oden's confidence was not in vain,as he was the only one to inflict a serious wound on kaido.

Oden said this. Look man, Oden sailed with WB and exchanged blows with him, saw Vista and everything, then he was transferred to Roger's ship and even exchanged blows with Roger, saw Roger and WB fight for 3 days, and after that he sailed for a while, 2 years? Side by side with Roger and Rayleigh and arrived in Wano openly saying that his style is the STRONGEST.

It's not me saying this but Oden thinks he's better than Rayleigh and Roger and anyone else he ever met.

"Self proclaimed" means he's the only one proclaiming it. Roger neg diffed him. He isn't on that level.

Roger defeated Oden in a single hit. Oden wasn't just beat he was one shot.
Post the panel of Oden knocked out because from what happened in the manga written by Oda, Oden was dominated but not defeated, he was standing and running to Roger seconds later.

An Oden much weaker and inexperienced than the one who claimed to have the best swordsmanship in the world.

Do you mean the previous holder of the title, or just who was strongest swordmain before Mihawk?

If it's the title I don't think anyone had it previously as far as we know. Ryuma is the closest.

If you mean sword-users, Roger for sure. But he was already called the Pirate King, so that's probably why he wasn't thought of as the WSS.

It's hard to believe that the world kept track of a title like that before Mihawk.

Mihawk probably went around hunting every swordsman he could find until he was famous and everyone aknowledged him as the best because none could match him.

Being someone who is about Roger/Oden's level when there is no Roger/Oden around means that no one could contest his title and it was cemented.

It would make sense for it to be Oden

He had the strongest swordmanship in Golden Era

He died and Mihawk became WsW some years later (about 12 years ago)

If they didn't have a black blade it doesn't matter who was the "WSS" before Mihawk, they might have not even have had that title, you know why?

Cuz no one did it like Ryuuma and then Mihawk. No one was that obsessed with swordsmanship to the point of making a black blade. No one had the same tenacity and drive. Unless another black blade is confirmed. Otherwise it's only gonna be Zoro.
