Couldn’t figure out what you meant by “slide” at first, but it would be interesting if it was Marineford 2.0 except Luffy actually succeeded in saving him.

I can’t remember if he payed attention to the story about Fisher Tiger and Otohime (Jinbe told him, right?), but I can see him risking his life if a friend depended on his help. That’s what happens during… well, pretty much every arc.
