Character Discussion Who's a Better Character in your Opinion? Marco or Katakuri?

I like Marco more but overall their about the same.

Marco has his moments but Katakuri is a far more developed from a writing standpoint. It's the reverse on battle relevancy. Roger Pirates, Marineford, Payback war and even Wano. He's the gold standard among the normal YC1 trio.

Marco is one of my favourites and I think he's a really great and consistently cool and reliable character. His moment with Luffy at the end of Wano was so great and I hope to see more in the future, they're both Ace's brothers so Marco saying that was sweet and after spending an act supporting the crew was just great.

Katakuri is one of Oda's best post-timeskip additions. Very intimidating, very cool, very powerful (relative to that arc and even portrayal wise Oda knew how to hype him up and build off of the idea of a billion berrie man). I think him supporting Luffy the way he did may seem a bit iffy to some but I liked it and it showed he was a pretty respectable person even if initially Luffy and him were at odds. The end with him intrigued by Luffy's determination to eventually beat Big Mom was also nice.

I'd give it to Marco slightly.

I love them both. But Katakuri takes slightly the edge here for me. Partially hard carried by the tie in with Brulee. But generally the idea of a villain who has been more humane and benign than any other villain thus far, is something that really moved my heart more.

Kudos to Marco, he all in all was more hype due to the Ace tie in, but that prior hype doesn't give him more depth than Katakuri has.
