Imu is both Luffy and Teach main enemy. I assume Akainu is Luffy archenemy, for obvious reasons. Meanwhile, Shanks and Whitebeard crew consider Blackbeard their archenemy.
BB could be seen as Luffy top 1 rival and opposite.
It's possible that BB is the final (!) villain, but at this point it's clear that Imu is the main (!) villain of the story.
Even if BB is the last opponent Luffy faces in the series, it will be after the actual climax of defeating Imu.
I can see a scenario where literally everyone teams up to defeat Imu (with Luffy dealing the final blows) and after that BB swoops in to take the throne and Luffy beats him, too.
If that happens, the Luffy vs Blackbeard fight will still only be the "dessert" compared to the "main course" of Luffy + world vs Imu.
Agreed, but I think you’re being too generous with that description.
Fighting Blackbeard after Imu would be more like “stale leftovers,” a pointless extension after the overarching conflict of the entire series has already been resolved.
I still don’t understand why so many seem to want such a pointless fate for Blackbeard. Being the final pirate obstacle before Luffy unites the world to face Imu is as good as it gets for him.

In my view, Blackbeard is not the one who shows up after the final boss. He's the one who kills the final boss and takes his place.
That’s the character Oda has been building.
There is no scenario where Luffy defeats Imu and then fights Blackbeard.
If Teach is written to make it to the end, then he’s the one who ends Imu.
1. Blackbeard is also freedom like Luffy. It is Imu that represents the opposite: oppression. It is Imu that made piracy itself illegal and the existence of Luffy (whether as Nika or a D family members) a crime.
2. Caribou is the one that brought knowledge of the Ancient weapons to BB. He didn’t seek out shit.
Blackbeard cannot be the one preventing the dawn of the world when people have been praying for liberation long before he was even born. There have been centuries of people awaiting the dawn because of the tyrant that has oppressed them for over 800 years.
BB on the other hand is just one of several rebels, but only one of those rebels is Joyboy. Only 1 person has been recognized as such from remnants of the past like Zunesha & Emery, and it’s certainly not the one that was keeping slaves on his island.

People seriously underrate how much focus Shanks has given to Blackbeard.
He knows where the real threat is.
Imu is a puppet. A narrative device meant to be killed off to make room for the real players of One Piece.

1. Sure, both chase freedom — but they live it in opposite ways.
Luffy shares it: joy, friendship, a world where everyone can be free.
Blackbeard hoards it: chaos, greed, power all for himself.
2. I'd honestly be shocked if Teach didn’t already know about Imu or the world’s darkest secrets.

Luffy rejects the idea of a pre-written fate.
So having his final opponent be a guy who’s sat motionless in a room for 800 years waiting to be overthrown would be the perfect way to ruin the whole story.
It’s way more powerful if the final clash is between the two pirates with the biggest ambitions alive — Teach and Luffy — battling to shape the future of the world.
If, as Vegapunk said, “the fate of the world lies in the hands of whoever finds the One Piece,” then claiming that moment is just a stepping stone is ridiculous.
That is the climax. After that, the story ends.
what has oda been saying? i never had the privilege of talking to him. i guess you neither. you saw some out of context translation of an interview by an untrustworthy source like library of ohara about one piece ending when the treasure is found. those types of people, especially the one i named, didn't just figured out how one piece would end, based on oda interviews, but also when: 5 years ago oda supposedly declared with confidence that it would take him 5 years to finsih... so maryjoa falling already makes sense in that light.
There's a difference between Oda estimating its longevity and giving away plot details. Plus, everything points to this "final war" that Whitebeard teased happening very soon.
Luffy will fight Imu and Teach at the same time. Teach, in his stupidity, will accept the mark to become immortal. Imu will possess Teach and gain access to his body and thereby his DFs.

It’s true they are growing I can’t deny that but it seems it’s just their new devil fruits, with all this immortality going around it feels like a more troublesome thing to deal with on top of having powers

It doesnt help that 90% of their df are shit despite the narrative implying they should have the strongest dfs
like everyones (if you dont count Kuzan, which i dont) is kind a dogshit beside augurs
The only dramatic thing here is their incompetence, lasting 800 years.

Yeah, I look at both sides very closely. And the more I do, the more the gap between them looks massive, in Blackbeard’s crew’s favor.
To me, it’s wild to think anyone would want these guys as the final antagonists of this story.
Its not really so much as wanting but more like what Oda seems to be writing the whole build up surrounding the world govt, the void century and joyboy stuff makes me think that’s the direction he’s interested in. I am fascinated with the moves Blackbeard is making but at this moment I see him as more of a penultimate villain than the actual final one.
