Questions & Mysteries Why did Germa have so much political power?

#1
So a point we were discussing in the sanji discord server..

Judge through Germa had enough sway with the WG to change Sanji's bounty as well as mark him only alive. As well as avoid being kicked out of the WG despite their shady dealings. The second mentioned by Judge that the wedding would be the last straw. But WHY did they have so much power? If we recall Vivi and Alabasta, it was literally said that Vivi couldn't show she associated or was friends with pirates because she'd be in trouble and could be imprisoned herself. YET Germa a kingdom as well can make sure one of their heirs comes back alive without imprisonment? So is Germa more powerful than Alabasta? What about other kingdoms like Kuma's that was interfered in?

Other than Sanji has there been any other cases of a pirate being pardoned through connections of royalty? This point seems to stand out as odd amongst the other kingdoms. Especially if Germa was without an actual territory anymore, and was on its last vestiges of power... Why did they have so much sway?

I doubt it takes a significant amount of power to disrupt bounties. It’s very likely that those who have committed crimes against specific nations in the WG are able to influence that criminals bounty.

So if judge said, this man is to be sent to the Germa Kingdom for his punishment, im sure they’d approve. Besides Sanji May be a big name at the time but the WG had bigger fish to worry about

Enies Lobby, and being part of the crew that attacked a Celestial Dragon made him an enemy of the WG and not just an infamous pirate though.

Yet as I said, Vivi could get imprisoned by just befriending and talking to a bunch of lesser known pirates (before they made the WG their enemy)?

That seems extremely imbalanced.

Since Germa is known as the "Warmongers", I wouldn't be surprised if Germa got a special treatment from the WG to defeat countries that opposed the WG. And bounty influence is one of the special treatment.

Or, my personal theory that Germa was part of the 20 kingdoms that fought against the Ancient Kingdom and Germa got the most achievements out of them. Going deeper, Germa was split into two family branches. Vinsmoke Sora was a former Celestial Dragon got married into Judge's family hence the special treatment. It's all connected.

It's likely all Royalty can affect bounties of pirates (though there are likely limits) as Don Sai has a bounty yet was allowed to enter the Holy Land as a soldier for his country. Vivi was probably just paranoid...

Next, the Germa isn't technically shady... they are just mercenaries which is allowed. They planned to ditch the WG and take over the North Blue after allying with Big Mom.

Multiple reasons I think :

- « classic » political power from being a King invited in Reverie.
- Warmonger / Mercenaries : they are dealing with / ending lots of conflicts between nations in all the blues. The WG is likely glad they are doing the work.
- Judge himself is a good asset to keep : insane tech, former MADS and Vegapunk partner
- Germa is a powerful kingdom, one of the most powerful kingdom out there. It’s good to keep them in the allied nations

A bit of all of that I think

Had a thought I put in the discord.

Germa may have more sway than the other kingdoms because he was the traitor that turned the other MADS scientists in.

-Caesar when Bege brings up Sanji's name says nothing. He points out Pudding is a Charlotte and Sanji's screwed but has nothing to say about the name Vinsmoke. YET later when Judge tries to tell him what to do he finally recognizes knowing him (to Nami and Brook's surprise.) Says judge never changes, and is always haughty/high-handed (different translations.)
-Stussy (if it is her) says nothing about Vinsmoke at the wedding, despite if it is her being in MADS, shows no concern or relation to knowing the family.
-Queen flat out calls Judge a bastard while wanting to show up his technology, and really has it out for Judge, for rivalry but also keeps insulting him.
-Vegapunk, says nothing about Sanji when talking about Robin and Zoro, and for the most part seems to ignore anything Sanji has said.

Yonji says MADS was disbanded or rather absorbed into the government. But Judge escaped the governments grasped and continued his research. ...Vegapunk was literally put on the equivalent of house arrest and made to work for the government but Judge who has tech equivalent was still allowed to operate?

Based on the others reactions, Germa's sway vs other kingdoms, and the fact Judge was able to still operate without any reprucussions. I'm calling it that he, not Stussy was the one that possibly betrayed the others in order to run away with all the research with possible other motivations we don't know about.

I just assumed he paid someone off.
The Vinsmoke name only appeared after the events of WCI, anyway.
If they could keep their Germa66 mercenary activity a secret, I fail to see why they couldn't move some straws and hide Sanji's identity while also manipulating the bounties. He could've just made a special request that he required this particular pirate only alive for whatever reason.
