Questions & Mysteries Why did Wano close it's borders?

In chapter 937, it is implied that Wano has closed borders because foreigners once tried to invade to obtain it's resources. But as learned in chapter 958, Oden, a royal citizen of Wano never believed this particular reasoning since he definitely knew the story of Ryuma.

In chapter 958, Oden says he never knew the real reason for the closed border policy and i believe its implied that after his voyage to find the one piece, he NOW knows.

Note that in 958 is the first time we hear Oden talk about BECOMING Shogun and also talk about Opening the borders of Wano himself.

All the Previous flashbacks we've had of Oden like in Chapter 942 consist of him just COMPLAINING that the country was too cramped and even saying he HIMSELF thinks Yasu would become the next shogun

As far as we can tell now, Oden started out with little desire to become Shogun, and wanting to go out to sea and complaining about the country's Isolationism.
AFTER going to Raftel, Oden returned to Wano with the desire to become Shogun with the aim to open Wano's borders.

In conclusion, i think the reason Wano's borders were closed off lies somewhere in Raftel. And if the strawhats learn it BEFORE reaching Raftel, in this arc, they will have a very big secret of the One piece

That's why Wano closed the borders.
Why would any country open its borders is beyond me. I suspect Oden wanted to trade with good aligned kingdoms such as Fishman Island.
Really? is that it?

You realise Oden obviously knew this Ryuma story probably from childhood. That Ryuma was defending Wano from malignant invaders. Oden knew this story and yet he says, he still didn't buy into the isolationism. And he knew this story BEFORE he ever actually went into the world to see how evil and fucked up it really is. Wano was apparently a paradise during Oden's time with the only sour spot being Kuri which Oden himself went and cleaned up and created into a thriving region. So for all intents and purposes, Wano was doing quite fine BEFORE Oden left.

But then Oden went out to sea and saw all the evils of Pirates and the World government and then went to Raftel and his conclusion after all that was Wano's borders must open.

You're sure after all that, Oden was simply doing this for trade? I don't think money is a good enough reason for Oden exposing the country to all the evils of the outside don't you think? Among all the things Oden probably came across, I'd say the One Piece is the biggest thing that would influence Oden, whether for good or ill. That's why i think the opening of the borders has a connection to the One piece. Hell there's litral prophecies about it with this "dawn of the new world" business and you think it boils down to money?

Maybe he wanted to create a confederation of kingdoms which would take on the WG.

As @K!NG HARA$H!MA said the logical explanation is protecting.

The fox pointed out how they were being attacked because they were the "golden country". But Ryuuma was strong enough to protect Wano against pirates and the world. After his death, they probably closed their borders because they didn't want to deal with any BS from the outside world and started being Isolated.

It's something FMI probably would've done too, if they had the strength.

Well, Did Wano closed it's borders before Ryuma's time ?

Protecting it's resources is the most logical explanation

So what's Oden talking about in chapter 958?

Obviously Oden knows the legend of Ryuma so why's he acting like he either never believed it or knows a different reason in this chapter?

Likely like Real-life Japan they wanted to protect themselves from foreigners whose ways of life and culture were viewed as against japanese's and at odds against the emperor and shogun's authority. It might also have been to be sparred from the same fate than the Ancient Kingdom and Shandora.

If the closing of the borders is tied to the Kozuki then already this debunks Gyukimaru's rant that Ryuma and the city of gold are the reason the borders were closed

My question is though, if the opening of the borders is instrumental in turning the world upside down then why didn't Roger help Oden with it? I mean Oden denied Roger's help but surely Roger could've insisted much more if this border thing was surely important...
