At the end of Whole Cake Island when Aladdin and co attacked the Big Mom pirates, why did they try fighting them on the surface of the sea instead of drowning them like how Arlong's pirates did to the Marine ship?

Plot Armor. Same reason why Sanji didn't dive into the water and kicked a hole in the bottom of the ship in DR. Same reason why a Swordsman just doesn't cut every ship in half they meet, but they start fighting with Canons and what not.

Oda can't simply destroy ships willy nilly when the story revolve around Pirates and many characters can sink ship easy.
This is why the Thousnd's Sunny survived the Arc(and not only this one) when Prespero and Katakuri had perfect chance to destroy her.

I have already talked about this long back. In one piece ships are like the weakest link considering the power of individuals but oda is trying not to harm the ships since they are are important part of the pirates..can't just keep changing ships it will take away from the story and so ships got plot armor in this series which is fair usage.

easy.
naval battle in OP would be way too much in favor for fishmen if Oda let that happen.

not only in regard to BMs ship. in general.
imagine if fishmen were allowed to sink any vessels, which they theoretically should be able to, then they could dominate the entire ocean.
sinking ships (relevant ones) is not usually happening in OP for obvious reasons. I consider it a plot necessity.
same reason why Kizaru can not run arround putting holes in peoples heads. it makes for a bad story.

Plot is the answer. The shit Jinbei showed when they were escaping from Impel Down means he should be untouched when near an ocean but Oda seems to have forgotten those abilities. He could literally make multiple huge water cyclones and puncture the hulls of ships.

If Yinbe is YC2 out of his territory, imagine how powerful he can become underwater with anyone else nerfed

He might defeat anyone eventually, perhaps the likes of Roger would still beat him in a bubble however

Sun Pirates and Germa won't die in a sea storm, BMP can because they're all DF enhanced...
