I dislike those who hype him as a big fish when he's well just another commander.
Fighting Luffy doesn't mean he's relevant to the overall story.

As a character I do dislike his silly mind of "fairness" in a fight , he threw away a chance to win and get rid of the SHs.
Pirates that act like this are Zzz

I don't hate his character but his place in the story is wierd for me.
Usually antagonists that rival luffy in strength are properly "advertised" but he was just one of many BM's children and delivered an astonishing fight out of nowhere.
And then he also kinda vanished again. He never was important for the story and just served as an incredibly strong opponent for Luffy without much context.
The fight itself was cool, but aside from that he just isn't very memorable for me.
No reason to hate him at all, just a lot of indifference. Whenever I see him I just think 'oh yeah, that happened I guess' and move on.

Didn't disprove the point. I like kata he's right behind mingo as my favorite villain but I don't over characters just because I like them.

The hate is clearly not directed on Kata as a character, but rather because he was Luffy’s main fight back in WCI plus he is liked by The MC fandom so pretty much the hate is on Luffy.
