Questions & Mysteries Why does Luffy always needs help taking down the villains?

Because Oda wants to hype everyone. In order to do so, the powerscaling has to be vague. Even if both Luffy and Kaidou want to be PK, placing them directly versus each other, Oda may not want Luffy surpassing Kaidou in individual strength to be accepted by everyone. Thats why Luffy requires help in taking down major players until now.
...Which is somewhat cowardly take for an shonen author imo. I don't mind it at all if Luffy needs help in taking down other villains like Katakuri or Cracker, its completely fine.
But needing the help in toppling down such a decisive PK-title candidate like Kaidou the WSC is so ridiculous and too timid for my taste. Luffy taking down Kaidou with help, just feels like if Zoro must take down Mihawk with help of Vista-King-Smoothie-Oden-Cracker-Pica lolol.
Even an excuse like thats Luffy's power, he turns enemies into allies, its so lame because its not like that is Luffy's only power. If readers having that statement as an anchor, then Luffy always needs babysitters to win. But isnt PK the one with the most freedom? If we take that statement as an anchor, its Luffy who needs to be the strongest ever to protect himself and his friends, the ultimate nakama babysitter. Which is why imo any of Luffy's fight against PK candidate, especially a WSC as PK candidate, shouldn't involve help in inflicting major damage to the enemy, and instead should show Luffy's powerlevel and willpower difference compared to any other fighter in his side.

Pain was never his rival, not even close lol. Pain was a major villain but he wasn't a rival. Naruto wanted to be a Hokage and he defeated his rivals in clean 1v1.

Because I haven't watched it fully, I never said that I haven't even tried. I've read some chapters and even some episodes but it's BS, the worst thing I've ever seen.

I feel you bro. Its somewhat of a relief that my attachment to Attack on Titan suffers from a much heavier disappointment, so i even if Luffy is actually unworthy to really take the WSC-PK crown when (if) the others babysit him and give critical damage to Kaidou, my disappointment wont be as bad lol
Cos he is always biting more than he can chew.
I can't think of an arc boss that is weaker than Luffy during their first encounter. It makes sense for him doing whatever he can to win, he is a pirate after all. If he was banging on these villians left, right and centre, the same people complaining now will also be the ones calling it plot armour.

You have to admit that Kid Goku was knocking out mfs like Iron Mike in the original DB tho. He was a straight savage.

It's called Shounen. MC always get tough fights and overcome the hardships and won the battle. That's how it works. MC asking for helps is normal, Ichigo got helps, Naruto got helps, Soma got helps, Goku got helps, etc. And then when the MC defeats the villain by him/herself, people were spouting plot armor and etc.
Naruto defeated his rivals in clean 1v1.

One piece is the only manga *amongst the ones that I've watched of course* that the main character is incapable of defeating his own rivals.
