Mihawks vivre card states he trained relentlessly for many years challenging more and more foes until he had no more left… seeing zoro fight a lack of swordsmen makes me wonder what mihawks path to the top was really like, because to use the word foes, and no worthy challengers without anyswordsmen stated specifically in the vivre card( assuming it’s right) maybe Oda never intended for zoro to strictly fight swordsmen I think to a degree it’s what a swordsman can cut that makes him the top swordsman not necessarily fighting swordsman after swordsman after swordsman. In mihawks case the only real swordsman we know he clashed with was shanks

He’s fought a many swordsman on his path but certain characters were created to unlock abilities aka “sword skills”.

- flying slashes for Ohm
- Ryou for Daz Bonez
- ACoC for king
- Asura for Kaku

Also One piece has never been vanilla with swordsmanship. DF based sword users pose interesting challenges for Zoro to show off his skills. Pica for example was to show off his impressive DC/AOE.

Oda uses Zoro to show no matter how versatile his opponents are, his swordsmanship is all he needs to defeat them.
