I have a hard time seeing it.

The scene from this chapter seemed like an explicit parallel to Whitebeard vs. Akainu in MF:

It was a short-lived victory. Akainu ended up getting his way in the end. I believe this situation will end similarly.

Kuzan is essentially being re-introduced as a brand-new antagonist here. It would not follow Oda's traditional narrative style for a new antagonist to be defeated in their first showcase. Especially not against a character who most people would agree does not serve a huge purpose in the story.

Even if Kuzan's faking it, Oda still needs to sell the idea that he's dedicated to Teach, at least for now. Maybe later it'll be revealed that Kuzan and Garp were accomplices the whole time.

With that being said, it's Oda. He had a perfect opportunity to give Teach some major hype, and chose to have old Rayleigh shit all over him. So who's to say that he won't let old Garp do the same.

Dude just think about it.

From OG Yonko WB and Shanks did nothing to claim One Piece.

In fact is even weird how WB had no possession of Red Poneglyph when he was clearly the Pirate King after Roger. Unless Teach already got it from his war against WB pirates remainers.
Yes, if you think about it, doesn't make much sense, to the point that many thought of Shanks as a stabilizing force guarding the World order, preventing others to gain significative power and to get closer to the throne.

But all of a sudden, Oda dropped the line 'It's time ti claim the One Piece" and Red Hair and Blackbeard gained two Red PG in the list 50 chapters circa.
Why? He's preparing for the endgame, OP is ending, the big players and the mysteries are being drawn with unprecedented frequency. It's time, dude: the Yonko will be clashing :steef:

First of all Akainu got a good shot on Whitebeard right after but then Whitebeard just removed Akainu from battlefield for a while. That's when Teach came in. So if you are paralleling to have the same result Aokiji won't be the one responsible for finishing Garp but Teach again with his crew as I'm expecting.

Second, talking about brand new antagonists we had Teach losing to Magellan and then to Whitebeard/Sengoku a bit. We had Weevil that barely did anything into history but already was taken hostage(probably heading Impel Down now) but okay we are not sure if he is antagonist still... And let's not forget about Jack the Jobber.

Law's fight was offscreened but Kid wasn't. How do you feel about that?
Kid wasn´t a fight lol. It was an unilateral massacre by shanks, also it served to showcase a little bit of elbaf and the giants in order to build hype when they go there while also showcasing that shanks´fleet are a bunch of useless people that shanks put under his wing which further proves his fame of goodguy shanks.

Forget Elbaf.

So no more Shanks is a villain theory?

It will go like Law vs Blackbeard.

Oda likes making the underdog and future loser of the fight look good.

Law/Garp will land a decent hit in the beginning, and then the rest of the fight will be offpaneled and we'll see Garp/Law defeated.

Garp went there to sacrifice himself. It's not about beating Aokiji he might do that but beating all of BB Pirates that's not even Garp should be capable of. Betting on new gen is common theme, Shanks sacrifice pushed Luffy, Garp sacrifice will push Coby.

Though I'm definite BB pirates will use treachery to beat a Legend like Garp, Oda won't have it any other way. Else BB pirates ain't coming out scarce free.

This would actually be redundant since we all know that Mihawk is the one that's gonna get stabbed in the back as it was ironically foreshadowed in his introduction against Zoro.

Quote "it's a shame for a swordsman to be stabbed in the back"
