Speculations Why is Marco even here?

Yeah but Sanji had that Enies Lobby BS gag all over again. It was for a character moment b/w him & Robin and also setup for the Robin fight. If Marco is to be written out of the arc, Zoro isn't going to the rooftop and Sanji's shenanigans with Black Maria wouldn't happen.
I would actually prefer if Sanji's Black Maria stuff was binned entirely but Zoro's got too many plotlines going on and narrative buildup in this arc to scar Kaido. Hence Marco had to take Zoro's and Sanji's place in stalling King and Queen till their plotlines resolved imo.

Yes, you're right. Basically all it was is just buying time for Zoro's return.

He probably is done for this arc, stalling 2 calamities + healing thousands + fighting an equal in King for 40+ minutes while being hard nerfed is more than his paygrade. However I do expect him to come around with the other remnants of the WB pirates during the final war.
Then the rooftop fight doesn't happen to start off the raid.
Zoro is having a tough fight with King alone, Marco had the perfect fruit to not only stall two enemies of that caliber but also "heal" people from Queen's plague. Zoro would have to deal with King and Queen 2v1? Basically Oda would have to rewrite all of Onigashima. Oda wanted to start the war off with the iconic 2v5, Yonkou vs New Gen.
This just goes to show you how much of a fix all plug in Marco was. You remove him, Wano looks completely different, Marco solves too many issues by himself alone. Oda didn't want Marco to steal anyone's spotlight, yet he didn't want to make him look bad either. It's essentially a win win for him, he only went down because he fought the top 2 all stars + was healing the entire floor. And yet he did do that, you can add all that to his resume. He showed his strength/ resourcefulness and yet still gave way to Zoro and Sanji without looking bad.
You can't have your cake and eat it, and yet Oda did just that with Marco. He's one of the most irreplaceable characters for Oda in the war.
I think asking more from Marco is a bit much, he might as well hold Luffy's hand to raftel if he does much more than this.

Oda was planning to have this guy be a part of the arc since Zou.
Although he later hinted that Marco wouldn't be there from the start
Which led a lot of people to speculate that Marco would get there mid arc, appearing when the alliance was doing bad and in need of help.
Except that later Oda clearly changed his plans whatever they were and brought Marco into the raid early
Which led people to think that Marco would defeat King 'cause bird v bird, YC1 v YC1 etc.
It didn't work out.
Then since Zoro replaced him against King and Yamato was given the dog fruit people thought he'd to on the roof for the Momotaro stuff, but instead he's in the dome daydreaming about Red Line Gods.
Keep in mind that up until now he could be written out of the arc easily.
- Stalling BM --> Make BM talk with Pero for longer
- Curing the LF --> Make the poison spread slower so Chopper has enough time
- Stalling King --> Leave King in the background patrolling the sky like he was doing while Queen is kept busy by the live floor (Chopper, Drake, Hyogoro)
So why is he even here?
Does he ultimately go to the roof to save Luffy from another KO? Does he join the fight against BM?
