General & Others Why is Wano hated ?

Following the steps of the user Fiji, I would like to ask why many of you currently despises/hates evey single thing Oda has done this arc. I mean , some of you definitely want some of the strawhats dead seeing how you constantly drop that bullshit "plot armor" stuff. For me , just the lack of interesting samurais and Big Mom amnesia (I didnt lke Udon either). Oden flashback was normal , and act 1 was normal too, Onigashima raid is not even at its best moment so im just waiting to its conclusion to have an opinion on it. Anyway, for me , its a solid 5 out of 10 , but for some of you , its trash . I would like to know why do you dislike wano thus far?

First, I think Wano has a big issue with pacing. Oda spends a lot of time in plotlines or places that are boring and uneventful such as Udon or even Oden Flashback where for the most parts, were just montages while not delivering things we would like to see such as more SH interactions or even BM vs Kaido. I can't even remember the last time I was excited for the next chapter for Wano, it has been a drag.

The characters in this arc has also been for the most part, atrocious. Oden was an awful self-insert and branching from that, I don't relate to the Red Scabbard's dedication to Oden because I feel like he didn't do anything deserving of that respect. Komurasaki who was badass at first - has been reduced to a damsel in distress. Her mother, Toki, a time traveller got overshadowed the same chapter she appeared. Even the antagonists, King, Queen, Orochi, Kaido hasn't had much panel time compared to all of the time we wasted following the individual SHs and scabbards around on their errands.

Also the plot conveniences have been so blatant that it is hard to turn a blind eye to. They just stick out like a sore thumb, such as BM getting an amnesia, Kanjuro's suicidal tendencies, everyone in Udon suddenly listening to Luffy...

There hasn't been any sense of danger and nothing that makes me feel like I want to read the next chapter.

The strawhats bar luffy feel for the most part irrelevant
Even with it being zoros arc his relationship with yasu, hiyori, and wano in general feel kinda anticlimactic. Especially considering zoros family potential originating from there
I do like that he has someone that likes him and really want to see more from the zoro orochi plot

Sanji putting on the raid suit is still a trash moment imo
Luffy fights fodder for a volume was very much eh. Queens cocky attitude had it feel even more redic3ulous. Made even worse by the fact kid was barely there.
The rest???

It pains me to say but the supernova have barely done shit either. Tho hopefully now that we're on onigashima itll get better.
Like these the dudes that are leading the next generation

And oda still having to nerf big mom and her crew in some of the worst ways just so they dont kill the strawhats....again...for a second arc....back to fuckin back.
Linlin shouldn't have came to wano at all imo

Also the calamities are very much eh

Because some people thought it would be Ennies Lobby 2.0 and it was not.
And because it seems that a vocal minorities in the western audience is more interested in Β« fights Β» than in Β« story Β».

I do not say that fights are a bad thing, but when you just read a chapter just to see side characters fighting and are totally oblivious or do not care about the story and the thematics of the arc, you just can be disappointed.
It is sad to me that for some people, One Piece should be a feat’s dictionary rather than a compelling story.

So far from what I read I enjoyed most of Wano tbh but judging by this forum most people enjoy trash talking everything so much that they can't really enjoy the story anymore because of that.

Subplots and build-ups are nothing new in those 20 years of story. Be it Strawhats meeting Cricket and the monkeys, or the Strawhats meeting Toto in Yuba and Luffy helps him digging for water, or adventuring through Skypeia, even Luffy working at the Baratie. It has always been with us and those scenes exist to build up the story up until the fight as well as to give a greater image of the place we're at.

I really liked Zoros subplots, the banquet scenes when Komurasaki was killed, I liked the flashbacks so far for the most part. I can agree though that Odens flashback felt a bit stretched but it gave us so much information and that's what I like and enjoy. Information.

Things so far I disliked are Big Moms amnesia, but it wasn't something I absolutely hated. And I am kinda disappointed about Marcos message, hoped it was more special than just to be thrown away in the end. Also Sanjis pervert scenes hit a new record in my opinion and it's annoying. And the last thing on my last are character designs. It's nothing new that characters look absolutely ridiculous but I just wished they looked a bit more normal. Be it Oden, Raizo or Orochi. Sure, Orochi is supposed to look like a coward and fool, and sure we're used to ridiculous designs for years and years now, but I dislike it sometimes...

Let me say one thing, I'm one of those advocating Pedro is still alive, and by no means I care for death to say "this is good"..... However, this arc SUCKS ASS

It's never about Plot armor for me...

My hatred for the arcs lately has been because Oda introduces a specific plot, with HUUUUGE potential, huge opportunities that can be used for that plot, and don't tell me that our own interpretation and expectation is NOT what Oda intended for... the problem is that the OBVIOUS ROUTE for that plot can ONLY GO THOSE DIRECTIONS....

So, by doing so, he hypes us, he makes us WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT to see how this will pay off.... then he completely ignores that plot and never goes back to it... and IFFF it was ever explained, he does it in freaking SBS... Yeah, what a cool idea honestly....

He constantly throws lines by certain characters implicating that something of the sort WILL HAPPEN, but then he completely ignores it

That's the TRUE difference in quality for me between comparing Pre-skip arc and Post-skip arcs, which made me enjoy Pre-skip more

Oda is the TYPE OF AUTHOR it seems that lately he's letting fans theories/expectations which HAS PROBABILITY of being RIGHT... to allow himself to get affected by it, so he either completely ignores it and never gets back to it.... OR he finds a different way to show the payoff, that NO ONE theorized EVEN THOUGH it was NOT his original plan, it was just him trying to do something the fans did NOT theorize.... thus, subverting expectations....

In other words, Oda ISSSS being like the directors of Game of Thrones in last 1-2 seasons... just relying on doing what the fans didn't see coming... regardless if it made sense. if the hints should be pointing other direction, if the foreshadowing is being ignored... doesn't matter, just do something to subvert the expectations

So, it's not really a WANO sucks issue.... It's a why Post-Punk Hazard, Oda has been writing this type of way!?

Cause I only feel that type of feeling since the beginning of Dressrosa

I actually love this arc. Oden has an incredible flashback, I love Luffy & Zoro's interactions with the people of wano, Big Mom's Amnesia plot line was even hilarious despite having reservations about it and it gave great moments for characters such as Queen to be more fleshed out and become a fan favorite.

Yasuie's death is much more impactful upon reading the arc again, and I genuinely hated Orochi and Kaidou for tricking the town folks into eating smile fruits.

Yasuie, Hiyori, Orochi, Killer, The bridge Bandit, Hyouzou, Killer. All great characters that were really fleshed out over a short period of time on screen.

What I do dislike about the arc came in the last 20 chapters:

Kanjuro's Reveal: Decent Reveal but it could've been executed better.

Denjiro's Reveal: I wish this was saved for later on. It would've had more impact. His role also has seemed to diminish since joining the alliance. I know he has a running gag of taking Kinemon for his word but he should really be headlining the samurai eventually as I see him and Ashura doji as being the strongest. This will probably be fixed during the battle.

Marco's Reveal: Like Denjiro, he would've best serve to be introduced later on when the stakes are higher but I know Oda is laying down the groundwork for Marco to save the alliance soon but the fact that his note was pretty useless makes most people believe that Oda changed his mind. This will also be fixed during the battle.

Plothole with Whitebeard not coming to wano. Need I say more? I can't see Oda explaining this away. Buuut let me try my best.

Wano really is as closed off as it seems. We know barely any news gets out of wano. Ooh, I do have an idea but I may make a video about it. ;D

Beast Pirates Incompetence: Especially in the latest chapters when they aren't taking the worst generation seriously. Luffy defeated Katakuri. This is a known fact to the world. Though I theorize that this will change soon. I don't personally see the alliance taking down Kaidou and Co in the initial clash. Everything right now is conveniently working out for the alliance and I'm 100% certain that this will change very dramatically. Especially since someone as competent as King is around. He won't underestimate these people.

Big Mom Pirates Waterfall Crap: Oda could've given us a better way of hindering them from reaching Wano without completely making them seem incompetent. Not to mention, it's been about a week since Big Mom and Kaidou made an alliance and somehow they only start traveling up the waterfall a week later? Did BIg Mom not try to communicate with them immediately afterward? If they lacked communication, King could've simply dropped a den den mushi to them so they'd know that they'd ally together. So many possibilities of communicating so much earlier were never discussed.

I'm enjoying it, but i know about its problems. So far i think these are main.

  • Plot Dragging. You could very well feel that in Udon and Oden flashback. The time spent on unnecessary things was ridiculous;
  • Characters undeveloping. Especially with villains;
  • PiS and CiS;
  • Fodder control. Should i say about that? Udon, current situation with Luffy, Zoro, Kidd and Killer
    even in current chapter, Zoro and Kidd fighting fodders
  • Big Meme and Meme Pirates;
  • Off-paneling.
I think those are main, but i'll wait for EoW.

I doubt anybody hates every aspect of the arc.

No!! Of course not. We want a better explanation, a better construction, rather than some random event that allows the protagonist to move forward.

I mean, if Protagonists wins by luck while antagonists lose even with hard work, that is not exactly a win anybody would like to see.

I feel like with Oden's Flashback is a great read from the beginning to end. It does drag on a weekly basis but this is by far the most interesting flashback we've had in a while. Never a dull moment imo Udon definitely could've been cut shorter.

Mind telling me which villains, in particular, are underdeveloped?

I have to agree. Not to mention, Queen really has no reason of not seriously trying to kill all four of them right now. Not only did his incompetence at Udon lead to Luffy and Co escaping but now they're rampaging throughout the festival. I'd have to think that Queen would be afraid knowing that Kaidou found out he let them escape Udon Prison which is his territory.

As we can see, it seems like the closer they get to kaidou, the more big players show up. I'm expecting Luffy and others to meet bigger players soon and technically those gifters aren't necessarily fodder especially given the quantity of them.

Amnesia Big Mom was decent and explainable. Tbh, she was shown in better light than wedding cake big mom. But current big mom failing to catch ussop and chopper is definitely meme-worthy.

Can't say I don't agree with the off-paneling of some scenes but I understand he's on a schedule. I didn't see any heinous of-screenings.

I think Post TS Generally is just hated. Oda as a writer sucks these days and Wano is no different arc.
Zou for once was interesting at times. WCI during Tea Party and in the ending, bt thn again Oda ruined it.
Wano had good start, bt then Urashima plot, Udon prison, BM amnesia, BMPs suck ass, Luffy beating fodders, off paneling msjor things, and most annoying thing stretching, when most people were hyped for final fight, Oda subverted to Oden Flashback when none were interested in his character, slowballed those chapters and fasttracked em when Roger pirates story came in, thn again apparently started the war, bt characters are still beating Fodders, and when they actually engage someone of note, either he offpanel em or make Characters run away.
I mean just Read Reverie fan made arc by Ohara and tell me, are these dozen chapters worth only this shit? Pacing is horrendous.
