At first probably for poneglyph. Better chance of getting one from an established yonko like shanks, big mom and kaido then an up and coming blackbeard who probably didn't have any.

He invaded big mom's territory too don't forget for poneglyph. Probably his first foray in red haired pirates territory was supposed to be like that. To get a poneglyph. That foray did not go according to the plan and he lost his hand in the ensuring struggle. Then he somehow managed to escape and planned another excursion for revenge this time with alliance

Probably wanted to take down someone that would instantly make them world renowned. BB was kinda part of their generation and had a pitiful bounty compared to the other three.
Now for the uneducated mind, Shanks for real seems like the weakest when compared to the literal monsters that are Kaido and Big Mom. BM and Kaido very existence is scary as fuck, I don't think there is anyone in the one piece world who would underestimate BM or Kaido. Shanks and and now Luffy though could be soft targets for dumb rookies

Shanks is weakest yonko. Simple as that. Kidd meet shanks first time get his hand cutted off. But then comeback with alliance confident to takedown shanks. Kidd has screw loose like Luffy but the dude is not dumb. He can plan and shit. He knows what he do. Shanks is a swordman. Out of all yonko. Kidd has an advantage with his magnetism

If you are going to attack a Yonko, and if also you need to make an alliance for it (which means you are not going to play fair and square), then you need to choose the weakest Yonko as you are willing to work with other pirate groups to accomplish your goal, that would be the safest bet.

So the question is, why Kid-Killer-Hawkins alliance wanted to attack Shanks (4 billion bounty), instead of BB, who at the time only had 2.2 billion bounty.

Perhaps right now its a toss-up between Shanks and BB, as BB got 3.99 billion bounty now, so choosing Shanks or BB wouldn't make any difference right now.

But this was before BB got his second Yonko bounty, so BB had only 2.2 billion yet, that alliance wanted to go after 4 billion bounty Yonko, instead of going after 2.2 billion Yonko.

What could be the reason?

Killer knew who was the strongest pirate is,

So perhaps Killer also knew BB > Shanks? Even though BB had lower bounty.

Option A: They thought Kaido > BB / Big Mom > Shanks.

Option B: Kid's magnetism ability is a good counter vs. Shanks's sword, they probably didn't think BB > Shanks, but they relied on that.

Option C: Kid wanted revenge for his arm so bad that they wanted to go after Shanks instead of BB.

Because Kid wants the glory of taking out the strongest Yonko (Shanks) instead of the weakest Yonko (Neckbeard) :goyea:

To pitch in my thoughts, Shanks was probably considered by them to be the closest to One Piece and therefore offered the most strategic value as a target. Considering that he was known to be a former Roger Pirate, with Roger being the only one who ever made it to Laftel - this means Shanks would have been known by them to have enjoyed more connections and friendships with other former Roger pirates who survived in secret places - maybe some of which had been to the island as well. You would suspect that either Shanks himself has massive intel on the island and its journey, or knows someone who does.

Sure, that he took Kid's arm is important too, but that was probably more of a bonus.

Teach is more likely to run in fear like when Papazuki challenged him. :milaugh:

The SNs simply did not want their efforts to go to waste, that is why they picked Shanks. :suresure:
