Character Discussion Why Luffy gets so many defeats in this arc?

So far, Luffy has been KOed/Defeated countless times.
In all circumstances, Luffy has been defeated but got saved in multiple situations (Zoro, Devil fruit, Kaido's change of heart).
  • One shotted by Kaido in gear 4th in the first arc
  • KOed by Apoo and Zoro needs to carry him for a short moment
  • Run out of energy due to gear 4th. Almost chopped in half by BM
  • Get KOed by Ragnarok. Zoro and Law need to buy Luffy time to recover
  • Get KOed and thrown to the sea
  • Get KOed due to CP0 interfere
I never read any manga that makes MC take this much utter defeats.
Why Oda needs to go this far?
How this advantages the the story?

Now he's the strongest character in the arc or at least second strongest
Even champions lose lol

Because Oda wants to hype Kaidou but he cant humiliate other people using Kaidou's powers since they will die. Someone as strong as Zoro had broken bones from 2 casual attacks from Kaidou so imagine how the others will end up from this mofo WSC attacks.

By having MC getting defeated countless times without negative consequence (but powerups instead) is the opposite of tension IMO.

Oda likes to make Luffy struggle to add tension to the story. Because most people care most about Luffys struggles when they feel that the story has tension or not.

No scabbard has died yet. We have too many side characters to toss around to hype the villian, but then...

Sadly, it makes Kaido looks more like a Luffy's personal trainer IMO.

Same reason Luffy lost to crocodile so many times, oda wants to show the way Luffy beats his opponents. Luffys greatest strength is that he can always get back up which is something his opponents can’t do

Stupid people saying "Oda needed to hype up Kaido" but forget he got koed by Apoo, struggled against Ulti+Page One and had to be saved by Yamato, needed G4 to deal Warship(with Law and Kid) and a Number.

If Luffy only struggled against Kaido wouldn't be so much of a deal.

Then we have Yamato that fought Kaido way better than Luffy.

Who wants a main character that never struggles? Luffy was fighting the strongest creature in the world he was supposed to lose and grow.
