General & Others Why Roger will always be better than Luffy

Truth is, while luffy is always relying on his plot armor during every single arc
But luck was never on Roger side
Really
Forget that goddamn movie

What we have in canon is:

1 - Roger had a incurable disease
2 - The fact that poseidon wasn't born yet
...

Roger became the pirate king with sheer willpower and determination
While Luffy will become the pirate king because he is "the chosen one"

Roger fought against Chadbeard, Garp the Fist, Sengoku, Xebec, Shiki
While luffy will fight against Teech, magma boy, and Spandam 2.0 (Imu)

True, Roger fought and draw with a beast like primebeard but also had prime Garp to deal with, Sengoku, let's not forget Xebec while all the new era, so Akainu, Aokiji, Kizaru, Shanks, Kaido, BM etc, are just below old beard who, despite his age and sickness, was still the ruler of this age until some "top tiers" managed to beat him with tricks first and then ganging up on him one after another or in group.

Luffy will be in his prime in a few week/months at best in OP time (unless there is another timeskip but that is really really difficult). Maybe we will see a 30 or 40 yo Luffy in a flashforward at the end of the manga but not in a fight. Anyway by eos he will have to fight eos BB who will be stronger than anything seen so far and of course the mc of a shounen by eos will be the goat.

The thing i like about Roger is that he has the feeling of piracy more. the savage reputation he got from slaughtering other people like Squard's crew and his raw piratish fighting style with a saber and guns. Roger knows his place and his capabilities. what he can do and what he can't. from acknowledging the WG's power to sneaking inside Linlin's territory to joining with Garp in the God Valley war protecting world nobles. you can't really call someone who spent 13 years wandering around after being just few steps from Laugh Tale ( Lucky ). it nearly took him two decades to reach LT. his grandfather wasn't a Hero, neither his father was a major figure.

He literally waited for more than a decade just for Oden to appear and help him read the road poneglyphs that he still didn't collect yet while Luffy already had someone who can read it from the get-go. talk about luck.

With that said, i agree that Roger's disease and the fact Poseidon wasn't born yet was one of the reasons why he couldn't go further, with his luck ending out by the end when Luffy will manage more than that.

I don't think your words are convincing when Roger himself is saying so

Do you realize that Roger only suffered to get ONE SINGLE Road Poneglyph, which is from Big Mom?

While the only road poneglyph Luffy is getting easy is from Zou arc.

while he got Big Mom's by the neck of their teeth, He will have war with Kaido for the 2nd, and the last one is missing and needs hard work I can imagine as well. Oda will not let it be easy.

While, Roger?
1- Stealing from Big Mom? The hardest one
2- Given by WB? Gift alongside Oden . (this is the last missing one in our current timeline)
3- Oden's own home
4- Nekumamushi's own home

If anything. Roger had 3 easy ones, and 1 hard copy
While Luffy got the first one easy for us to recognize it and know about it, and get explaination, and the other 3 are hard to obtain.

I see Luffy more deserving and I guess that's why he will surpass Roger

In the end Luffy will accomplish all that in span of 3 years or less since the first time he set sail.

Roger spent at least a decade to reach Lodestar since he first set sail, then he spent 9 years trying to just find out how to reach the island past Lodestar since Log Pose isn't working. when he became 47 years old he heard about Oden, but it still took him 4 more years to meet him, and during that time gap he got an incurable disease. and then 2 years later he finally reached Laugh Tale. but when the answer was there, he was dying anyway with Poseidon out of his reach. that sounds lame lol.

If i had to say, Luffy and Roger have the same exact potential, and if Roger was in Luffy's place, he would still accomplish the mission just good.

Robin joining the straw hat wasn't luck. She was part of multiple organisations before and never stick to one.
She was taken away and luffy and the other straw hats fought to take her back and in the meantime gave her her will to live back.
Luffy manages to attract interesting and strong people just like roger before him.
