First thread and it's about Shanks and his reasons for going after the One Piece after Wano's end.
According to Buggy Shanks has wanted the One Piece before but something changed Shanks mind.
This shocked Buggy who's known Shanks his whole life. So what could have changed Shanks' mind? I think it has something to do with what Roger said to him and this is still not answered.
Going to the end of Wano Shanks declared he'll go after the One Piece but this was after Kaido and Big Mom's defeat but those weren't the reason he decided to finally take it for himself.
Up until now Shanks has tried to prevent conflict every chance he got. When meeting Whitebeard he tried to stop Ace from going after Whitebeard
He stopped Kaido from reaching Marineford and causing more chaos.
He forced the war on Marineford to end and was ready to take on anyone who would try and stop that. That included the forces of the Marines, the Warlords, and Blackbeard Pirates.
So we know Shanks isn't afraid for some smoke but why did he choose now after Big Mom and Kaido were defeated?
Luffy that's what.
Back in chapter 1 of the story, Shanks entrusted his will to Luffy and has been waiting since then to face Luffy when he becomes a Great Pirate. Luffy even proclaimed that when it's all said and done he'd have a better crew than Shanks'.
After Luffy beat Kaido, he is now in the same league as Shanks.
The reason Shanks waited until now to make a move is because he's now ready to fight Luffy and maybe try and make his dream a reality if he proves better than Luffy in the end.
He told Buggy he wouldn't go after One Piece YET. So clearly he was waiting for something. And so far waiting for Luffy makes the most sense until we learn more about his reasons because we know Luffy wasn't born when Shanks decided to wait. But clearly Luffy is linked with his original motives that might have something to do with his exchange with Roger in chapter 968.
In short no, Shanks wasn't ducking Kaido or Big Mom. He isn't afraid of the smoke. He's tried to keep the peace as best he could until Luffy was on his level. He now feels Luffy is ready to face him and wants to test him one final time to prove if he's Pirate King material and challenge Luffy's words to him back in Chapter 1.
