Law's DF allows him to sacrifice his life to grant immortality.
Luffy is the sun god nika and the final villain is Imu, the immortal king of the world.
it makes no sense for Luffy not to get immortality. There was already a high likelihood of this happening when Oda first introduced the ope ope no mi's immortality surgery back in dressrosa, with Luffy being one of Law's greatest allies. But now that Luffy is a god and Imu is almost confirmed to be an immortal?
idk, it seems like Law has a massive death flag on him.
Law's D heritage has always been a major part of his character. His current dream is to understand the meaning behind the D. What's going to happen when Luffy goes to Laugh Tale, learns about the true history of the world, and tells Law the meaning of the D?
If Law knew that Luffy is the inheritor of the Will of D, then he would tbh have no reason not to sacrifice himself in order to make Luffy's godhood permanent. I feel like this whole Nika subplot is probably either directly or indirectly taken from christianity.
I say indirectly because christianity has had a major influence on main character archetypes across history and while Oda might not have directly been inspired by christianity, I'm sure he's a fan of some western media, which would inherently have some christian influence.
In judaism there is this idea of the messiah. The person who will revive the jewish kingdom in the Land of Israel, and create an era of peace that will last forever, with the messiah reigning as the immortal king of this era.
Christianity takes this idea and says that the messiah is Jesus of Nazareth, who Christians believe to be God. Jesus was born over 2000 years ago, he lived and he died, but Christians believe he resurrected himself and will make a return sometime in the future. When Jesus comes back, he is supposed to create the world to come and live forever as a god king.
Joyboy seems to be this pirate jesus, who ultimately died during the void century, but came back in the form of Luffy and will subsequently create the world to come(which ties to Luffy's dream and the Will of D). We have already seen this parallel of Jesus and Nika in the story through the character of Kuma, who is a Nika worshipper that lives in a Church.
To what degree Nika really is inspired by Jesus, I cannot say. Buy Luffy getting immortality would fit with the story of Jesus, with Luffy reigning as pirate king forever, much as how Jesus is supposed to be the immortal ruler of the world to come.
