No, I used to think it's a possibility, but I highly doubt it now given what Luffy represents. Maybe in the epilogue we get to see 100 years into the future where Luffy's dead, but I don't think the actual ending of the story will be Luffy dying.

Don't worry Luffy fans. He can't die if he never existed. In an alternative ending.

Reminds me of that Bleach theory where after Ichigo defeats Yhwach, he finds himself still standing in Fake Karakura 300 chapters earlier when he supposedly "defeated" and sealed Aizen, and everything for 300 chapters afterwards was Aizen's Hypnosis Bankai :steef:

I've never really watched Bleach, but I am aware of this Aizen character. That would have been crazy.

I've read similar theories in another anime though. There was this very old Pokémon theory that Ash went into a coma and just dreamt all of his adventures.

The entire one piece story just being one of usopps elaborate lies would be the greatest plot twist in the history of story telling
That would be poetic in a sense, because his lies become "reality". Oda tries to remind us of it even in random color spreads.
