Theory Will Luffy get a reverse gear ? (Luffy's final power up).

Will Luffy get a reverse gear ?

Vehicle gears are : 1,2,3,4,5,R.

Luffy said Gear 5 is his peak but having a reverse gear is a different story because it wouldn't be called 6 so technicially he didn't contradict himself , personally I think Oda made Luffy say gear 5 is his peak because he doesn't plan on giving him a gear 6 but that's probably why he will give him a reverse gear.

I mean , after what Luffy has shown against Kizaru , don't you think he needs a power up to be able to stand at the top ? , the time limit of gear 5 is a problem even though the form itself is OP.

Let's just say , his natural state (with rubber powers) is gear 1 and his human state (without rubber powers ) is gear 0 but there is no gear 0 in a vehicle so what would a reverse gear even mean ?

I can think of two things and it could be both of them at the same time or neither but if reverse gear existed then I'm more inclined that it will be both of them at the same time though.

1-Perhaps he will revert back to the original Nika with an unlimited access to all of his powers ? , consdering his natural form is just him with rubber powers but his awakened form is more like Nika but the first time we saw Luffy do the Nika pose was with the moon and not the sun , we still don't know why Nika is related to the sun , moon light is weaker than the sun's , so maybe there is another transformation which makes Luffy fully Nika and this time he will do a Nika pose with the sun , this would go well with the term reverse too.

2-Perhaps it will be some sort of a monkey-like transformation Sun Wukong style and since Luffy's family name is Monkey D and this would also go well with the term reverse if Oda decided to go with this.

What do you guys think ?

Very Interesting, Luffy might indeed Unlock Gear Reverse
And it's the entire reason why Oda chose to name them Gears in First Place

I think it's gonna be DF-Less
Luffy needs to Prove that He can be as Legendary as Roger, Rayleigh, Shanks, Mihawk, Garp ... etc without relying on his DF to carry him

So Gear 5 is His Peak DF Form, but not Luffy's Peak as a Combatant

Haki has nothing to do with devil fruits though , the gears are done by his devil fruit.

It doesn't need to be named Gear Reverse just like Luffy didn't name his Gear 1
It's just a Form where Luffy completely does the opposite of what He was doing

So instead of Upgrading his DF with each Gear, Reverse is for Non-DF Fighting Style (It will be Named something different)
But We as Readers understand the Reference

So it's similar to Zoro's No Sword style fighting mode in a way? That makes some sense..

The idea of a haki form is unlikely and it doesn't sound interesting as a final power up.

Exactly

Two-Swords --- Gear 1 (This represents First Style They grew up Learning)
One-Sword --- Gear 2 (This represents their Speed-Based Style)
Three-Swords --- Gear 3 (This represents their Strength-Based Style)
King of Hell --- Gear 4 (This represents their CoA-Based Style)
Nine-Swords --- Gear 5 (This represents their Peak)

Since Zoro have a No-Sword Style, Luffy should have a No-DF Style (Reverse Gear)
Which makes me think, why would Oda make Luffy & Zoro need a DF-Less & No-Sword Styles EOS?

DFs can be Awakened & Meito are considered "Cursed" in the Hands of those who aren't Strong enough to carry them.
Kaidou's Words about DF Awakening is the exact same of what happened with Zoro & Enma for example

It seems that Unlocking Full Potential of DFs & Taming a Meito are the same thing, you need to Surrender your Haki to them
(Become One with them, Synchronize, Fuse ... etc)

So in a sense, you're submitting to these DFs & Swords & relying on them to unleash your Haki (Which represents how Strong you are)
But that means Luffy will only become as Strong as his DF can be, and Zoro will only become as Strong as his Swords can handle

However, Luffy & Zoro shouldn't be like Top Tiers, They should have a Greater Potential, that means all this time They've been trying to get Stronger so They can use their DF/Swords to their Full Potential, when instead, it's their DF/Swords who should be Upgraded to withstand Luffy/Zoro's True Haki Peak

So Luffy abandoning his DF-Style Temporarily & Zoro abandoning his Swords Temporarily EOS, will let them realize that They have always been Underestimating themselves & They will reach their Personal Peak, so that when They use their DF/Swords again, They automatically get Upgraded (In Zoro's Case it's Black Blades probably, in Luffy's Case it's something that probably only Final Villain have, just like only Zoro's Endgame have a Black Blade)

To make it short, Luffy & his DF are like Two Separate Characters & same for Zoro with his Swords.
In Dragon Ball Z, when Goku & Vegeta Fuse, there is Vegito & there is Gogeta, depending on who's in Control
Luffy's Fighting Style is his Fusion with his DF & Zoro's Fighting Style is his Fusion with his Swords
However, They are both using Fusion where it's DF/Swords that are in Control, but instead it should be Opposite
So they must first Unfuse & it will help them discover what They were doing wrong (It's why KOH/Gear 5 & Asura/Gear 5 are Temporary)
