General & Others Will of P

#1
when i first read one piece, i really felt touched when pell sacrificed himself being the guardian of alabasta, or when pagaya sacrifice himself for his daughter connis, or even when pound said "congratulation on your marriage"
BUT when i re-read it, i felt that feeling is gone because i've already knew that they are alive... don't misunderstand, i always felt the heaviness in usopp vs luffy fight, the goosebumps in zoro's nothing happened, the sadness when merry and ace died, even when i've read them multiple times, i still feel the same for those moments... only the feeling of the Will of P moments really changed to nothing the second time i read it, and it kinda really ruined the experiences for me

Has it become Oda's weakness to not be able to kill his characters? What do u guys think about Will of P?

It's a strength of the story imo

The death of a character is far more impactful when it's rare. Ace's death would be far, far, far less impactful if guys like Pell or Wiper had died. Simply because it was an even bigger shock.

Another example is Neji in Naruto - not that I cared much for the manga any more but his death hit very hard. Some of the Manga that emphasise death a huge amount, like Berserk, actually have very few deaths too. The eclipse is a masterful and perfect example of what I'm talking about. The perfect example though? Ou Ki in Kingdom. Death should be used to change/subvert a story with profound impact. If everyone dies all the time, this effect is lost

I think that what makes one piece different. I guess oda wants to keep it fresh and fun for a trivia matters, plus for the sake of the future plot.

Imo, a sacrifice doesn't mean the character has to die to saves live though. Getting left behind and let go of someone is also part of what makes it emotional for me. Or getting hurt almost dead to protect someone. Just doesn't mean has to be dead

i absolutely agree with you! but if it's like that, i just think they shouldn't have made any character looks like they are killed in the first place... BUT again, it's oda we're talking about haha he just loves to fuk with our emotion xD
but still, those moments are very beautiful tho

Well Oda doesn't like to kill off characters, he only does when strictly necessary and he proved that by keeping Pedro alive (more and more probably) and the Germa as well
people complained a lot about pedro's death, saying they would dropped the series if pedro is alive... i'm not a big fan of pedro and don't really care if he's dead or alive, but the community seems already sickened with the Will of P shit, especially lately because of Pound, making Pedro the last chance for them to not being fed up and dropping the series :(

as for Germa, i think it's impossible for oda just to kill new iconic characters like that, but i'm being super fine if Judge was killed tho LOL
