I'm sure im not the only one that doesn't like Mary Sues, if you like them then more power to you fam.
He isn't actually a Mary Sue:
Really?

Zoro struggled waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much to be a Mary Sue or a Gary Stu. If he were either of those, he'd be where he is now with little to no hardwork.

Unless the plot literally bends to his comfort (like Rey in Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, for example), Zoro will be plenty of things, but a MS/GS is not one of them.
I was joking about Zoro showing off this fight.

Do you understand the use of future tense?

I said if he can cut lightning next it would trend on Mary sue territory.

Post skip Zoro hasnt struggled much.

I'm sorry for not getting the joke.

Well, you didn't say post skip Zoro back then. You only said Zoro, which I naturally assumed to be his character from the very beginning to now.

Regardless, I still don't agree even if Zoro cuts lightning, he will become a MS or a GS. To be either, a character has to be better than everyone else without any justifiable reason. Zoro spent most of his life training, anyway, so if he could do what nearly everyone else couldn't, his feat is justified.

''Spending most of his life training'' isn't a justification to keep handing him random powerups this arc imo, he needs to atleast work for it some, like Luffy did most of the post skip.

While he may not fully become a Mary Sue, he would be treading towards it.

  • Enma qualifies as a random power up, but it has a very strong narrative.
    • Zoro inherited Oden's will to slay Kaido and open Wano's borders.
    • He will accomplish what Oden couldn't do by killing Kaido and making Enma black.
  • Cutting fire was something foreshadowed all the way back in Punk Hazard; it's not a random Wano power up.
  • Cutting Lightning would tie into the ability to hear the Breath Of All Things and would be a generalisation of cutting fire. Zoro will hear the breath of Lightning and be able to cut it.
    • This would have been foreshadowed through his Koushiro flashback in the Daz Bones fight.
    • This would have been foreshadowed by Hyougoro's words about the use of Ryuo.
    • This would have been foreshadowed from his Pica fight: "there is nothing I cannot cut".
    • We might also get more exposition on the Breath of All Things via a Mihawk flashback.
  • Zoro might get the Nidai Kitetsu and while that could qualify as a random Wano power up, I'm not sure it would be.
    • Zoro upgrading his Kitetsu has been foreshadowed since its very introduction.
Tl:Dr; aside from Enma, all of Zoro's other "power ups" have extensive foreshadowing and development. Enma in particular has a very strong narrative that trumps its lack of foreshadowing.

Neither Enma, nor Nidai Kitetsu nor cutting fire nor cutting lightning will make Zoro a Gary Stu.
