Current Events Will Zoro do battle against any strong swordsmen or samurai in Wano?

#46
The whole point of Oden’s flashback concerning Wano was to show that Wano was a rich country with a lot of strong individuals but that Orochi and Kaido’s rule destroyed the country and the samurai’s spirit. This is why there is no more strong samurai except for Oden’s vassals who was the last Shogun (in spirit at least) of Wano.

Therefore narratively speaking they cannot have any strong samurais in the enemy camp. Furthermore, in chapter 986 Oda emphasis (by Hyogoro) that the samurai’s spirit was lost by having the Oniwabanshu and the Mimawarigumi changing side after Orochi’s death.

Zoro fighting a strong samurai will be anti-climatic. Which is why Zoro will fight a strong pirate swordsman instead.
Thanks, this helps to put it into perspective and if I think about it this way I can accept it. It's still disappointing though but I guess I'll just have to get over it. Wano should have been more about sword fights and samurai culture instead of Smile users. I just wish he told the story in a different way such as making the Shogun a badass who enlists all of the strongest samurai onto his team. Everything doesn't always have to be a comedy. Destroying the samurai's spirit in a story sense is underwhelming af. I'm still enjoying Wano for the most part though so fuck it. I just hope Oda doesn't take away future sword fights for the sake of "story" like the Mihawk fight.
