General & Others Would One Piece be better if it was just a pirate story?

There's a RPG called 7th Sea that has a lot of elements of pirate fiction that One Piece doesn't have.

...but still has plenty of ancient mysteries, Gods and magic and the like.

Even one of the best pirate themed games in the last decade or so, Black Flag, was tied to all the whacky mysticism associated with AC.

No, because it never was. It gives pirates story vibes at jaya but that's it
Nah. One Piece pirate treasure. The Calm Belt doldrums. Early OP was leaning heavily towards the pirate history but it abondoned that all for the world of Oda. A word of anicent kingdom and phropacy and chosen one, etc.

Imagine One Piece if there wasnt the big mystery around the Void Century and Imu-Sama. Imagine it if it was just a story about the Strawhat pirate crew, who has their rivals for the treasure (Blackbeard,Shanks, etc.) and the World Government/Marines as enemies,a corrupt governement that has both good members and evil members.
So,basically,One Piece like it was at the beginning. There was this race for the treasure, there was a morally ambiguos Marine, but there wasnt all this focus on the mysteries of the past,Nika, etc.
Oda had probably this Void Century story planned from almost the beginning,or at least from Skypea, but still, sometimes i think that even without this Void Century/Nika/Imu lore,One Piece would be cool anyway with just being a "pirates story" where pirates fight each other for the One Piece and the Marine hunts them. No chosen ones. The cool characters would all be there anyway. What do you think about it?
One Piece being just a huge pile of Gold would significantly downgrade the stakes about finding Roger's treasure.

I still think preskip is pretty much a flawless masterclass in adventure storytelling, and I've been very mild on most of the postskip, but this is the most excited I've been about One Piece in years.

Egghead was the first arc since the skip that I loved as much as one of the preskip arcs.

Elbaph is off to an amazing start.
OG prime Oda material is next level stuff.

All One Piece arcs, except of Jaya was happening on the some land, what do you mean by pirate treasure adventure, when only pirate that cares about treasure is Nami? But then again she is the only real pirate in crew, which is irony. Jaya is the only arc that was made as pirate story adventure.

btw there are real pirate story adventures: Pirates of Caribean Sea, Treasure Island, Cutthroat Island, and more.

.
Yes but it's also the only way to make the setup and pirate theme work.

"Wealth, fame and power"
Humans are greedy and they want these things and that's what pirates wanted and that is why everyone searching for the OP.
This was the setup chapter 1.
A big problem in OP is that the characters are not written correctly. Luffy has no reason to find the OP. If this story was written well than Luffy would be Edward Kenway.

By the way the point was not much if Oda had planned the Void Century since the beginning, but more like: which side of the story do you prefer? The historic side or the pirate side?
