I think he would still have fans even if he wasn’t conventionally attractive. Bartolomeo, Kizaru, Kuma, Fujitora etc have fans and they’re not exactly sexy ubermensch archetypes. Weevil’s lack of fanbase is his appearance combined with a stupid voice (in the anime), a mommy complex and the fact that he’s 40 acting like 4. Immaturity and stupidity are huge turnoffs for the fanbase. If Yamato was a man, she would be absolutely despised by the fanbase, even if she wasn’t ugly as sin. Because immaturity in women is cute (Perona) and immature men are unattractive as fuck.

Barto and Fuji would be the only two I'd say have a real fanbase and for good reasons. Kizaru has a small cult following and Kuma has some mystery around him that keeps him relevant to the fans.

Yes, and that is why there has been a huge uptick in people who criticise Luffy post timeskip as opposed to pre-timeskip. Luffy was never actually that immature, he’s the one that slapped sense into Vivi and reminded her that she was being naive and idealistic. Post timeskip is a different story and you’ll find a lot more mature readers willing to criticise Luffy or who prefer other characters over him.
