It depends on if Kaido is dead or not.
I believe when Vivi needs be rescued or help to take on Imu and his forces, the straw hats will travel to the different Nations to gather their allies for help. Zoro will go to Wano to gather the samurai's. This is when we will see Zorro lead the samurai's. Remember, all the Luffy's crewmates are considered officers. It is normal for Yonkos officers to lead their own force.
If Kaido is alive I can seen Oda having Zoro fight and kill an awakening Kaido to show off strength and build up his Ryuma connection.

Zoro vs Kaido (if he returns) is a fight similar to Zoro vs Ryuma.
Why? Because Zoros AP is already extremely high without full mastery and Kaidos AP being enough to break Zoros bones in 1-2 hits.
Zoro does not have anything close to Luffys Gear 5 durability and he can't restart his own heart. So in a potential scenario of Zoro vs Kaido pt 2 it's more or less who strikes first, same as Zoro vs Ryuma.

Didnt Kaido fail to bring down Zoro in a combo with Big Mom and you think Thunder Baguas/Conqueror of 3 worlds will damage Zoro significantly while Law took it without any significant damage and went on to fight another Emperor?
You severely underestimate Zoro... Kaido is the one who cannot afford to take hits from upgraded Zoro, Zoro can take hits from Kaido.
And this fight would be nothing like Zoro vs Ryuma because Zoro and Ryuma matched each other blow for blow. Kaido's CQC is proven to not be able to keep up with Zoro.

Whatever dude. If it ever comes into fruition I'm sure Zoro will say it himself, he is no fool. I'm not underestimating Zoro, I merely rate Kaido as the WSC that made the whole New World and even Admirals like Green Bull shake in their boots. Very few characters can take more than a few hits from him, especially not normal humans like Zoro.
Dudes like WB, Luffy, Big Mom or Kuma are built differently – nowadays even Sanji – but Zoro is the same as Mihawk, Rayleigh or Shanks. 180-190 cm humans with normal bodies.
