With the SBS reveal we now know that the shimotsuki family were for most part fodders with at best few strong swordsman just that none of them are anywhere close to top tier beside Ryuma the ancestor.

This only mean that more than just his relation with the shimotsuki, Zoro's hardwork and will power was what made him the strong swordsman he is today.

He is basically carrying them.

Zolo has all the tools to succeed but somehow still manages to fail, he'd be dead in chapter 5 without Wuffy

Compare that to Ryuma who lived his life solo and made a name for himself, that's why Ryuma's blood is diluted in Zolo:cheers:
