It's true that Zoro probably never had a great since of direction. Maybe he got lost once or twice but it's really his proximity to Luffy that made him into a constantly lost fool. Same thing with Usopp's cowardlyness. Chopper was very stoic and only joked around with hililuk. Upon meeting Luffy now a singular compliment sends him into a comic book like song and dance routine. Nami allways wanted money but it wasn't until Luffy beat arlong that she literally started lusting after money. Of course Sanji liked women but after he was in Luffys presence forawhile that he started expelling half his blood from his body.
