Character Discussion Zoro has the wierdest WSS journey

#24
Also What is the need for Zoro to fight swordsmen though. He can improve his skills on his own and he absorbs skills from other swordsmen like Kinemon. He doesn't need to beat every swordsman he sees for him to get stronger, there are other means. He just needs to be strong enough to beat Mihawk when the time comes. You guys treat it as if there is a tournament to decide WSS and Zoro has to beat various people to have the right to challenge Mihawk.

I think in the end we may see that Zoro was already WSS but he just didn't know haki so he was basically seeking himself, by this logic Mihawk may turn out a fraud which has happened in monsters one shot. I think Mihawk is the Usopp of swordsmen and in the future with Ragnir Usopp will also be fraud like Mihawk. :milaugh:

Zoro has the wierdest WSS journey

Was it the same for mihawk ? Because it's laughable.

- cats: they got claws , as some equivalent of swords

- a guy that uses baseball bats and muscular lady. No swords here.

- mr1: we works because he may not have swords but his entire body is like a sword

- giraffe with swords. no hater but giraffe that has a body like a shield is wierd WSS match

- ryuuma. Clear winner match with former, likely WSS from many years ago that also won Zoro a black blade.

But wierdest part is he gave up his first and only black blade, won fair and square, just like that.

- a guy that did occasionally used a sword but he was a rock golem. Barely qualify as a sword duel if I'm generous when guy was spamming rock golems 99% of the time

- pteranodon. Again, he said it himself he is not a swordman. He is a dino with wings and peak that look like swords but clearly are not swords.

- a duel with cat again, bigger then the pre ts cats, leopard Lucci. He got claws,.but no sword duel yet again.

- Super Super Sommers

A guy that has spikes, invisible spikes boosted by magic or whatever these guys are using.

Again not a real sword duel.

He is known as "knife of WG" so he is most blade like title of WG,.but still wierd.
What are you talking about?

Are you complaining that Zoro isn’t engaged in vagabond type regular fights like he’s in our real world with no super powers?

your complaint is that Zoro’s fights aren’t MORE basic?

Zoro's WSS journey is nearly identical to a cook who focuses on fighting on the side.

Oda has no shame.
Thinking about it would Sanji technically be the second strongest swordsman or even the true strongest swordsman anytime he picked up a blade

Sanji unlike Luffy is pretty skilled with blades and is already comparable to Zoro just using his legs

Big Daddy Saran is standing in Zoro’s way being the Worlds 3rd Strongest Swordsman

For those that are being reductionistic, I can say that Zoro's journey of becoming the World's Strongest Swordsman doesn't need to happen on panel with such logic. As long as Zoro gets the title, nothing else matters. The main point of this thread isn't whether or not Zoro's title is legitimate when it's all said and done, but rather did Zoro's opps sufficiently served the role of being Zoro's foil in his race towards becoming the World's Strongest Swordsman, which they obviously didn't. Said opponents should of also been used to expand on the poorly extrapolated concept of swordsmanship in One Piece, but Oda obviously failed in doing so. Yes Zoro is making "progress" in his "journey" of becoming the World's Strongest Swordsman, but rather than his fights and his enemies composed with the central principle being Zoro's journey and exploration of swordsmanship, they were mostly just generic antagonists that did little to advance Zoro on his journey to becoming the WSS other than them just so happening to have an ability that Zoro can learn an ability to counter, and even then that's not most of them.
