Mihawks only reason to tag along with Crocodile is that it is mutually beneficial for both. They are as much allies as one can throw the other.

I always wonder about the amount of wank/glaze Oda gave to Croc.

I'm "story first, power second" type of One Piece readers, so I can tolerate a lot of Oda's weird, shaky, and inconsistent take on strength/power balance.

I can even stomach the controversial "Dorry Brogy able to tank the Elder's attack" scene, and my mind can process that.

But the leap of power from Croc who lose to gearless hakiless Luffy to someone worth 2 bil who Mihawk willing to cooperate, is just too big for me.

Tbh croc in Alabasta was just a shell of what he was. Just a man who hasn’t taken a hit or used his full strength in over a decade who lost cause he literally had nothing to fight for since his decade long plan revolved around robin who betrayed him

Zoro is supposed to be a rival to Mihawk in the near future,and unlike Crocodile who had a Warlord status and was a peer of Mihawk at some point,Zoro was subordinated to mihawk not long ago.
I doubt Mihawk would even listen to him until they have their final duel.

Zoro should be stronger than crocodile but not to the point where mihawk would respect him as an equal
Crocodile while not as strong adds a lot more through his planning, funding, etc
