General & Others Kaido is not a swordsman. Zoro can't beat Kaido 1 v 1.

No, Its different because this the land of the samurai, wano, it has a direct connection with Zoros background.
Hiyori nursed zoro she and zoro have bonded and as long as kaido exists she and everyone in wano cannot be at peace, Zoro feels like he owes her and therefor wants to defeat kaido, He also wants to finish off kaido and carry on her fathers legacy.

For Zoro and kaido it all connects its not just mere irrelevant connections these are all heavy plot connections and there is much more, For Zoro it all leads to kaido and thats why he said it himself: Zoro wants to slice that tuna fish into just tuna.

Also not all the set up is around Kaido. Zoro has actual set up with specifucally Orochi. Orochi is weak so thats why he cant be a candidate but there is still actual set up with Orochi.

Same way there was set up with Kyoshiro before the Denjiro reveal

And i agree most, NOT ALL, of the set up is Against kaIdo FOR NOW and thats why Zoro is fighting Kaido now, but there are things in the arc about Zoro that either have nothing to do with Kaido or clearly lead to another climax coming up.

Hiyori, Nidai Kitetsu, Ryuma, shusui, the fact that Orochi isnt dead, the fact that Kaido and company are gonna beat the supernovas, just the existence of King... Like these things dont disappear just becausse the set up with Kaido exists.

the orochi thing was one of many parallels he has with oden
where they both attacked orochi in rage and he was saved



all odens personal beef was with orochi not kaido just like zoro
orochi killed his dad
took wano to ruin
attacked his wife and kids
killed hyous wife

yet oden realized what the real issue was as shinobu said


zoro came to the same realization despite having both orochi and kaido as targets going into the raid he only has one thought on his mind
and thats kaido






even with king in front of him he has 0 interest in him

and even up until orochis alive (not that he saw orochis death if he didnt even know kaido went up as a dragon)
he never mentioned him once
just kaido

@ImmaIvanoM: Ryuma wasn't Zoro's main fight of TB, it was Oars or Kuma.

Main opponents of Zoro that weren't swordsmen:
  • Nyaban Brothers
  • Daz Bones
  • Monet
  • Pica

Main opponents of Zoro that he lost to:
  • Baratie: Mihawk
  • Thriller Bark: Oars & Kuma

I'm not convinced that Zoro gets defeated by Kaido and doesn't come back for another round, but it's not as if there isn't precedent for Zoro losing to his main opponent.


As for King, I find it hard to imagine be can push Zoro beyond medium difficulty:
  • Zoro can neutralise his fire abilities
  • Zoro can tank upper tier attacks from a Yonkou
    • Mama's "God of Lightning: Tenjin"
  • Zoro's offensive prowess outclasses his
    • An Ittoryu technique could terrify the Yonkou
  • Zoro is a significantly more capable swordsman
  • Zoro has been growing over the course of the Kaido fight
    • He's been adapting to Enma and is now regularly overflowing hardening through it
      • He may overflow his hardening through all three swords next

King vs Zoro would be another Zoro vs Pica.

The only way for King to push Zoro beyond a mid-diff fight would require Zoro being nerfed, honestly.

Which is only believable after Zoro unleash Ashura Zoro to nearly stop Hybrid Kaido (or even both Big Mom & Hybrid Kaido) and is spent as a consequence.

Even then, Zoro will still have to ZKK at the end of the arc regardless whether or not he encounters King.

It took a war against the Marines with multiple Top Tiers on their end to take out Whitebeard, and you think 5 Worst Gen members, with only one low Top Tier in the bunch, is going to defeat two Yonko's who haven't even gotten serious yet?

The point in all of this, from the Scabbards to the Worst Gen members all fighting Kaido and damaging him, is to injure him enough that when the final battle starts, Luffy will defeat him on his own.

If Zoro can reopen the scar Oden gave Kaido, now, that is a significant plus for the inevitable 1 v 1 fight of Luffy vs Kaido, as when Oden scarred Kaido, it took days to heal.
