-Hello Ladies and gentlemen welcome

-I want to discuss a specific topic with you guys->

Was the manner and the reason for why luffy recruited Zoro different from all the other straw hats?

In my opinion it is for the simple reason that Luffy wanted to ask Zoro to join him even before he met Zoro

*The proof for this is in this one panel :

*This was before Luffy even met luffy or even before Zoro was introduced in the story, Luffy says he wants strong people in his crew and that Zoro is said strong person. He then says that the condition for letting Zoro join is if hes a good guy. This is not the reason he wants Zoro to join because if that was his reason he would have picked any nice guy along the way furthermore there was no way for luffy to know if Zoro was even a nice guy. Infact he was known as a monster as coby mentions in the same panel. Being a nice guy is Luffy condition to Zoro joining not the reason he wants him to join.

-This is obviously different because Luffy decided and sought for Zoro to join, Which is different from the other straw hats which he decided he wants them to join after he met them / Had an interaction with.

What do you guys think

Was Zoros recruitment special or was it like all the others and did Luffy seek out zoro because he heard about his strength?

All opinions welcome

Thanks for reading

Luffy lived in the most backwater part of East Blue, never reads the news and had only Makino and Dadan for company for the three years that Ace had gone out to sea. For Luffy to actually have known Zoro’s name and whereabouts suggests that Zoro was actually very well known in the region for his strength.

Zoro and Nami are the only two crew mates that Luffy sought out/insisted on having no matter what. Even after Nami betrayed him at Baratie and ran away with Merry, Luffy demanded that they try to recruit her anyway. Anyone who tries to suggest that Luffy, Zoro and Nami are not the triggers and main characters of the series needs to go back and reread East Blue.

Luffy wanted sanji no matter what too
He sought him out too

Nothing new, oh main characters are Luffy, Sanji, zoro, ussop, Nami
With Zoro and Nami being triggers back then alongside Luffy.

Nami and Zoro aren't still triggers
What have they been triggering since TS?

Luffy didnt know Sanji Ussop or nami before he met them, He only knew about Zoro and he went out of his way to recruit him.

No he didn't
Wtf are you talking about?

I am not even trying to hate on Sanji here but this is straight up a lie.
Luffy was looking for a cook, not specifically Sanji, he didn't even know who Sanji was. Then he stumbled across Baratie and saw that Sanji was a good cook so he wanted him in.

Luffy never sought out Nami. He wasnt even looking for a navigator. And Luffy insisted on Sanji multiple times. What is this obession with making the first 3 SHs special lmao

I know this is better said in the unpopular opinions thread, but there is no consistent recruitment process for the Straw Hat Pirates, and there never has been. They all have similarities in their courtship with Luffy, but like you’ve laid out here, Zoro wasn’t sought out because he served an essential purpose on a pirate ship like several (but not all) of the others that came after him, but purely because of his reputation and heart :zosmug:

Luffy recruited Zoro because he had a good heart.

Zoro joined Luffy because he had to.

this is a special case.
no other Straw Hat had a necessity to join. they all did because Luffy saved them or their friends.
Luffy blackmailed Zoro into joining BEFORE he helped him out.

Chrono if you are really genuinely not knowledgeable about why Luffy recruting Zoro was unique compared to the other recruiting, then your knowledge about this series must be revised lol.
