I kinda repeat myself in this thread every 3 postings. This time, take a look at my response right after your posting.
About just beating him, thats kinda true. But like oda said, it is about crushing their dreams and their identity here. If they take away his title and his main island, that will be the important damage.

Going away from Kaido by not finishing him is already a decision. And Luffy is there as part of Luffys crew, he wont fall against that decision. Even if Luffy wouldnt stop him maybe, but zoro well knows that everything he does there is under the flag of Luffy and in the name of Luffy.
While the citizens killing Kaido is nothing of Luffys concern. They were allies, but nothing more. If Kid kills Kaido, he may dont care, if Law does it, he may dont care too, if the Scabbards do, he wont be involved, but Zoro is his crew and he is responsible for every of their action.
The Scabbards plan was it, not Luffys. Did Luffy ever mention to kill Kaido? So Odas exact wording is less important for your opinion then the plan of the scabbards?

The only right answer that Luffy wont stop Zoro from killings kaido if Zoro felt like he has to. How Oda will do it its on him to make it make sense. Other than that yeah if it was any "normal" circumstances luffy wouldnt let Zoro kill him. But i doubt its going to be "normal". Either way like i said its not impossible either way. The other thing i just remember is that Zoro even thought didnt kill but tried to kill. There is only the thing with the magistere which is debatable if its filler. What i am talking about is this:

No, Zoro is their as part of Luffys crew. Like Killer as their as Kids first mate / Vice captain. While following his own path, he is part of Luffys crew in the first place and he demoted his whole life to it. If it is necessary to let down his dream of becoming WSS for Luffy, he will do it. Luffys Goal is the main focus of them and Luffy as captain is their purpose there.
