What are some scenes do you think the One Piece anime adaptation handled better compared to the manga?

I think a good example would be the gear 2nd debut.

Compared to a more brief showdown in the manga the anime makes Blueno's comeuppance even more brutal adding attacks like jet spear and jet missile (with Luffy even holding the cp9 agent's "horns" lmao). Munehisa Sakai's storyboard and direction were fantastic with the camera shaking while the audience are put in Blueno's point of view and Katsumi Ishizuka's corrections were really polished and close to character designer Noboru Koizumi as per usual.

I agree I think that the gear 2 reveal was craaazy in the anime. I think that luffy punching the celestial dragon as well as kuma sending the strawhats away were also done better in the anime. Another would be zoro vs killer in wano kuni.

That's simultaneously pretty easy and pretty difficult at the same time. I guess something I preferred would be the showing of the finisher in the Luffy v Katakuri fight. I think actually showing their final blows connecting as opposed to cutting away like the manga did was a definite improvement on the source material.

I loved the inclusion of Tashigi bowing to Nami in the anime when telling her she would take care of the Punk Hazard children. It sold how humble and genuine her desire for Nami to trust her with them was.

The manga version for that fight was just not very good.

At least the anime gave it some form of spectacle, and generally kept the result the same.

They made it even more clear that Kaido totally overpowered Luffy. We still have people who think that Luffy's king kong gun would have done something to Kaido based on the manga.

The anime made it clear that even Luffy's strongest move wasn't going to be enough to put down, or even really faze a serious Kaido.

I'd say it lived up to the manga fine, because there really wasn't much to live up to in the manga. The manga chapter is easily one of the worst panelled action chapter in the series, and as a result, none of the serious story beats in that chapter are very effective.

The anime kept the same general meaning, while actually delivering a somewhat satisfying final fight, and more strongly argued for Luffy being unable to beat Kaido with Kong Kong Gun failing.

And no, they don't need to follow the manga 1:1. The additions they added worked perfectly fine, and only change the meaning of the text ever so slightly in very unimportant ways.

It was drawn in a really uncompelling fashion? Like, its the finisher for the first act of Wano, and it wasn't even really that exciting.

And yes, the anime did convey what the manga intended to convey, that Kaido was way out of Luffy's league, and was not an opponent Luffy had a prayer of defeating at the current moment.

The anime made Luffy's beat down more visually interesting. It utilized its medium well to make the action scene with Kaido more dynamic.

The anime literally did what you suggested in building off what happened in the manga, it just did it in its own way, because it is an adaptation of the manga.

The anime was awesome back then even if the « quality » wasn’t as good as today.

Even for the fights : no useless special effect, no slow motion etc. I prefer something a bit more rough but more nervous.
