General & Others Times the anime did better

What are some scenes do you think the One Piece anime adaptation handled better compared to the manga?

I think a good example would be the gear 2nd debut.

Compared to a more brief showdown in the manga the anime makes Blueno's comeuppance even more brutal adding attacks like jet spear and jet missile (with Luffy even holding the cp9 agent's "horns" lmao). Munehisa Sakai's storyboard and direction were fantastic with the camera shaking while the audience are put in Blueno's point of view and Katsumi Ishizuka's corrections were really polished and close to character designer Noboru Koizumi as per usual.

Brooo.

That's fucking bullshit.

In Manga, Kaido speed blitzed the shit out of Luffy.

In anime, it looked like it might be an equal clash at some point until Kaido broke through.

Anime did Luffy vs Kaido worse in terms of Kaido's portrayal.
Nah bruh kaido all about taking hits and not dodging before zoro so it made sense
Absolute cream of the crop garbage.

@OP

Best animation/direction in a One Piece fight.
Disagree and agree

Yeah, but it was still better than manga.

The manga version for that fight was just not very good.

At least the anime gave it some form of spectacle, and generally kept the result the same.

They made it even more clear that Kaido totally overpowered Luffy. We still have people who think that Luffy's king kong gun would have done something to Kaido based on the manga.

The anime made it clear that even Luffy's strongest move wasn't going to be enough to put down, or even really faze a serious Kaido.

What?

The fight was supposed to make a very specific point in a specific way, with Kaidou sighing and casually blitzing Luffy, it was supposed to be nonchalant. Instead it completely went off on a tangent to do some senseless dbz type clash which completely changed the purpose of the entire scene, it rewrote history for the worse.

Now when Luffy gets clipped by thunder bagua despite using FS in the second encounter it means absolutely nothing. The entire purpose of this future scene is now meaningless.

If you want to ruin a scene for random fireworks, there's fan animations on youtube for that, it doesn't belong in the official anime.

Ontop of all that it straight up looked like a circus show, with Luffy hitting a wall kilometers away and rebounding kilometers back to land around Kaidou. They dropped the ball on multiple levels.

The fight was boring in the manga. The panelling wasn't interesting, and it was generally just painful to read.

And yes, the fight in the anime did further highlight how unstoppable Kaido was by making Luffy's strongest attack do literally nothing.

And they even confirmed that Kaido thought Luffy was a massive weakling in the literal next episode, where they specifically add dialogue to demonstrate Kaido's annoyance that Luffy was a complete weakling.

And dude, its called making the fight visually interesting(which it really wasn't in the manga).

I'd say it lived up to the manga fine, because there really wasn't much to live up to in the manga. The manga chapter is easily one of the worst panelled action chapter in the series, and as a result, none of the serious story beats in that chapter are very effective.

The anime kept the same general meaning, while actually delivering a somewhat satisfying final fight, and more strongly argued for Luffy being unable to beat Kaido with Kong Kong Gun failing.

And no, they don't need to follow the manga 1:1. The additions they added worked perfectly fine, and only change the meaning of the text ever so slightly in very unimportant ways.

You sound like a 9 year old, that fight was by design drawn that way, and it did its job flawlessly. That's what it's all about, how well can a scene convey what it's intended to convey? The anime's job is to build on that mood or atmosphere, not to throw it all aside for random fireworks.

What you enjoyed more is subjective so I'll leave it at that.

It was drawn in a really uncompelling fashion? Like, its the finisher for the first act of Wano, and it wasn't even really that exciting.

And yes, the anime did convey what the manga intended to convey, that Kaido was way out of Luffy's league, and was not an opponent Luffy had a prayer of defeating at the current moment.

The anime made Luffy's beat down more visually interesting. It utilized its medium well to make the action scene with Kaido more dynamic.

The anime literally did what you suggested in building off what happened in the manga, it just did it in its own way, because it is an adaptation of the manga.

that what was incredible in early one piece anime, it really captured Luffy carefree attitude, the beginning of a trip, the discoveries, humor, adventure etc. The atmosphere was there.

The anime was awesome back then even if the « quality » wasn’t as good as today.

Even for the fights : no useless special effect, no slow motion etc. I prefer something a bit more rough but more nervous.
